Most of the students were trying to move from a white belt to a yellow belt, while one student was moving from a green belt to a blue belt.
The students were put through their paces by visiting Master Instructors Greg Dovey and Terry Bradbery as well as South Coast’s regional adviser Ashley Simmons.
The gradings consisted of a series of learned movements done in patterns, where the instructors were looking at form and efficiency.
Each belt colour signifies a new rank, and progression can take many years. New students start with a white belt, followed by yellow, green, blue, red, and black. The black belt has a further nine ranks.
