Bermagui Sporting Clays held their first shoot for the year last Sunday.

With beautiful sunny weather and a well-designed course, the 52 shooters that were in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The day was the annual Side x Side Bush Challenge, sponsored by Classic Racing & Performance Engineering, while the Under & Over competition was sponsored by Far South Coast Excavations.

The course designers - ably led by Rob Shaw - did a great job presenting a vast array of different targets, crossers, incomers, overheads, quartering, rabbits, battues, springers and going aways.

Prior to the first shot being fired for 2019, the club presented an $800 cheque to the Bermagui Rural Fire Brigade. It was the proceeds of a novelty event at the Christmas shoot.

Brigade president Maggie McKinnley and brigade captain Tim Holdsworth were in attendance to accept the cheque, and thanked Bermagui Sporting Clays for their much valued support.

Craig Field got an unexpected Christmas present when he won the shoot raffle, then proceeded to shoot the compulsory eight targets to take home five crisp $100 notes.

Because of his absenteeism at the Christmas shoot, Chris O’Dea received his belated Club Handicap Champion sash, much to his surprise. Club President, Nev Brady, thanked all who helped out on the day and wished everybody a successful 2019. As it was a true handicap event winners of the day were:
