Every Wednesday for the past five years volunteers at Monty’s have provided a free, nutritious, two-course meal and an opportunity to socialise for anyone that comes through the door.
This week’s menu consisted of roast beef, shepherd’s pie and zucchini slice followed by fruit salad and pavlova.
Monty’s attracts a wide variety of people and being there every Wednesday, 52 weeks of the year is something people can count on and look forward to.
Monty’s runs on a tight budget and volunteers are excited that the new solar power system will save them about $2000 per year that can now be put to other good uses.
They use power year round to run fridges, freezers, urns, stoves and other kitchen equipment and provide meals for about 80 people a week.
Monty’s solar-power system has been made possible by donations from South Coast Health and Sustainability Alliance (SHASA) and Micro Energy Systems Australia (MESA).
SHASA is a not-for-profit community group that supports the local transition to low-carbon in Eurobodalla. MESA of Bodalla is providing free labour and have discounted the cost of the necessary equipment.
SHASA and MESA team has installed 650 kw of solar panels on more than a hundred homes and businesses with a total estimated reduction in emissions of a thousand tonnes of CO2 per year.
At present the fourth Eurobodalla community solar bulk buy is open.
