Candidate says he did not incite strike
The Greens candidate for Bega said he did not incite students to strike for climate change action, but simply informed them of a Friday, March 15 event.
Will Douglas teaches at Moruya High School but said the information he gave at a recent external youth forum should not be associated with his job.
Some students from Eurobodalla Shire high schools will take part in the second School Strike 4 Climate march.
Mr Douglas said he did not encourage students to participate in the strike, but had "informed them". "I did not incite students to strike," he said.
Mr Douglas said he received "industrial advice", and was confident he had not breached his code of conduct. "I haven't received any letter of complaint, nothing stating I have breached a code of conduct," he said. Mr Douglas said he was disappointed at negativity on social media and he was well-respected in education.
"Who is to gain from this?"
The call for climate change action has involved students globally.
Friday will be the first time Moruya High School students participate in the event.
