Creative spirits will seize the South Coast over the next two weeks; occupying artist's open studios and overrunning streets in parade as part of the River of Art Festival. In their working studios, art lovers can meet prize-winning artists and discover the method behind the madness. Artists will showcase abstract and realist paintings, wearable art, pastel landscapes, printmaking and pottery among other mediums.
Million Paws Walk
Moruya, May 19
The RSPCA's biggest fundraising event is happening in the Eurobodalla. Dress your pooch for the occasion, or just come along and enjoy the company of dogs of all shapes and sizes, and their dog-loving owners. Choose between the short or long walks starting at Moruya Riverside Park. Registrations open at 9.30am with the walk kicking off 10am.
Comedy Roadshow
Bega, May 18
For 20 years the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has been touring far and wide, bringing giggles, guffaws and good times to Australia and further afield. The roadshow is coming to the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre from 7.30pm. The line-up for the show is emcee Dave Callan, Danielle Walker, John Hastings, Pat McCaffrie and Rahul Subramanian. The roadshow is recommended for ages 15+.
Vote 1 The Figmentz
Candelo, May 19
Popular South Coast covers supergroup The Figmentz will rock away your election weekend blues with a gig at the Candelo General Store and Cafe from 3pm. This will be the last show for The Figmentz until a planned return in spring. The Figmentz' regular line-up of Andy O'Donnell on guitar and vocals, Ken Vatcher on drums/percussion, Dave Crowden on bass/guitar/vocals and John Drews on Hammond organ and keys, will be joined by Stacey Mills and the Sapphire Horns for a afternoon of fantastic tunes, fabulous food, a fully licensed venue and fun.
Station Open Day
South Coast, May 18
NSW Fire and Rescue stations across the state will open their doors between 10am and 2pm for their annual open day. Head down to your local Fire and Rescue station to meet the crew, check-out the gear and maybe even have a go on the fire hose! It will also be a great opportunity to ask firefighters about your home fire safety.
Motoring Heritage Day
Berry Showground, May 19
Shoalhaven Historic Vehicle Club is hosting the National Motoring Heritage Day. The theme this year is a Salute to European Vehicles. All owners of vintage, historic and classic vehicles are invited to come and take part in the day which will see hundreds of spectators through the gates. The event begins at 7am and finishes at 3.30pm.
Jump First, Ask Later
Nowra, May 21
The high-octane, multi award-winning show Jump First, Ask Later is at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre for one show only. Featuring members of the Dauntless Movement Crew and directed by Byron Perry, the show tells the stories of six young people growing up in one of Sydney's most culturally diverse areas. Using a combination of parkour, acrobatics, martial arts and street dance, the show creates a physical narrative that immediately engages the audience.
