But a magistrate has dismissed his claim stress from scrutiny by Queensland's corruption watchdog and the media led to his behaviour on May 1 - the day he was sacked.

Drunk on wine, he was about three times over the limit when he caused $4500 of damage to the uninsured car he ploughed into about 4.30pm.

He was driving fast enough to uproot the palm tree.

The crash snapped off his white Honda's front left wheel and tore a tyre from its rim, ending his trip to the Meadowbrook KFC.

Smith, a 49-year-old father of three, has a diagnosable alcohol use disorder which was flared by the stress, his lawyer Nick Dore told Beenleigh Magistrates Court.

"He's a man who previously held a position within the community of some high standing," Mr Dore said on Friday.

"He had just been sacked from employment. This was after some months of both police and media scrutiny in relation to other allegations.

"He suffers from an alcohol abuse disorder to deal with stress.

"When he gets stressed ... he has the tendency to revert to alcohol."

Smith, who is facing corruption and fraud charges, was fined $1000 after pleading guilty on Friday to drink driving and driving without due care and attention.

He was also ordered to pay $4500 restitution to the owner of the damaged car and has lost his licence for six months.

"A lot of that stuff doesn't fly. You're the same as everyone else," magistrate Athol Kennedy said of his excuses.

Smith also admitted breaching bail conditions for his corruption charges by drinking before the crash.

Highly embarrassed and remorseful, he had been receiving treatment for his alcohol disorder, Mr Dore said.

But the fact Smith would likely never be mayor again meant he would probably never have that level of stress again, he said.

He remains unemployed after the state government sacked the entire Logan council on the back of a Crime and Corruption Commission probe involving him and most of the city's councillors.

He was charged with fraud and misconduct for allegedly pushing a top executive out of her job.

Seven other councillors were also charged.

Smith is also facing charges of official corruption, failing to correct his council register of interests and two counts of perjury.

He is alleged to have corruptly agreed to receive a powerboat from a political donor, SKL Cables, to progress the development approval of a Springwood hotel.
