Madelyne and Katelyn Czubara will travel to Europe next month as part of Les Femmes Kangourous, an all-female go-kart team based on the Gold Coast.
Although the team didn't originally qualify for the event, they got their opportunity thanks to another team (France) declining their invitation.
"We found out on the seventh of May," Madelyne said. "We received an email in the early hours of the morning, and we were stoked.
"However, we've only had a couple of months to prepare for the event, so it was sort of sprung on us."
The sisters have been racing go karts for almost four years.
"We started socially when we entered an event at the old indoor karting place in Batemans Bay," Madelyne said. "Ever since then, Katelyn and I have been in love with it. We do it both for fun and competitively.
"We get to learn new things everywhere we go, so we get to know what works and what doesn't."
The sisters, along with team member Erin Shields, have been looking for sponsorship to help them get to Italy, but they won't need to take a kart with them.
"The kart will be supplied," Madelyne said. "They've brought out brand-new suite of SODI karts that we'll get to run, but we'll still have to take our race gear.
"We're trying to get a team shirt together for the competition as well.
"There's someone over there testing them (the karts) and making them to parity, and they'll want to keep them as even as possible."
Unfortunately, the sisters' family won't be travelling to Italy with them.
"They would have liked to, but with the limited amount of funds we have, they were unable to get over," Madelyne said. "No doubt they'll definitely be in touch with us every day.
"I personally can't wait to go and experience that part of the world. I just recently got back from a Europe trip that I'd booked in advance, but if I'd known about this, I would have just stayed over there rather than paying for two sets of flights."
