The two clubs joined forces on Saturday for their second annual Motor Neurone Disease (MND) support fundraiser where a number of business representatives took the plunge into an icy pool.
The Merimbula Diggers claimed the result on the field, fending off the Lions to win 15-9-99 to 4-5-29.
However, the big winner was the fundraiser with almost $40,000 raised across the day and a special fundraiser on Saturday night.
A number of businesses took part in the fundraising in a special head-to-head format with the the business raising the lesser amount subjected to a frigid slip and slide off the back of a tip truck.
Astyn Friend emceed the special post-game ceremony where she announced the businesses had raised a combined total of just over $22,000.
Despite the enormous effort from everyone involved it still meant an icy plunge for some with the closest 'battle' between the businesses being separated by just $11 in fundraising.
Donations during the game also amounted to almost $1000, which was enough to see the umpires for the day also taking the plunge, while both team captains led the festivities and hurled themselves into the pool first.
Club officials said they were 'beyond proud' to share the results of the fundraisers and thanked everyone involved.
"A huge thank you to all those involved in organising the event, all those who donated money, time and effort toward the day and all those who attended and chose to spend their time supporting this worthwhile cause," the social media post reads.
On the field, the Diggers had worn special jumpers in support of the day with Noah Martyn named man of the match after a strong display through the midfield helped Merimbula to the win.
The result also locked in the minor premiership for the Diggers, who now hold an unassailable lead on the competition into the last couple of rounds of the regular season.
Early in play the Diggers were buoyed by good appearances across the middle line with Noah and Brendon Gordon solid in the ball contests, while Jedd Martyn had a blinder to lead the goal kicking with four majors to his name.
Team coach Matt Molkentin also had a strong performance, picking up a pair of goals with some handy contested marks and long range kicking.
Richard Hawkins and Ethan White were among the best performers for the Diggers as play progressed, shutting out Narooma attacking options and ensuring play remained largely at Merimbula's attacking end.
