Narooma FC's Youth Boys finished the regular season in style in Moruya on Sunday, running out 2-1 winners over Clyde United.
Several positional changes contributed to a slow start for Narooma as they acclimatised to their new roles. Clyde took full advantage of the time and space allowed, running through the defence to score early, despite a valiant effort from Anthony Elliot in goals.
The goal brought the Reds to life, with Callum James leading the attack and working well with Jack Westoll, Thomas Hills, Jarrod Duck and Loghan Camilleri across the midfield. Narooma's improved passing game ultimately brought their first goal, when Westoll beat a couple of defenders to cross to James in the centre, who hit it first time to level the scores and nab his third goal for the season. Hills added to the score before half time, after cleaning up a loose ball from Clyde United's defence.
The second half was a tight affair, with both sides unable to affect the score line, despite the boys giving it their all. Narooma found themselves unlucky on a number of occasions, shooting straight to the waiting arms of Clyde's goalkeeper and striking the woodwork more than once.
Defenders Josh Ryan, Sam Perry and Jarrod Manton had a standout game, consistently getting to the ball first and sending it back through the halves. Jarrod Manton was particularly solid in defence, attacking every ball, supporting his mids and working well with Loghan Camilleri on the left hand side. Camilleri was unlucky not to score on several occasions, despite brilliant attacking play.
The Youth Boys finished fourth on the ladder and will play local rivals Bodalla Bulls SC in the minor semi-final next Sunday in Moruya, kicking off at 9am.
U13's - Batemans Bay SC (0) def by Narooma FC (5)
Narooma FC travelled north for the last fixture of the season, safe in the knowledge that they had already qualified for the finals. Batemans Bay, on the other hand, were hoping to finish off a poor season with a win in front of their home crowd.
Narooma enjoyed much of the early possession, but it took 15 minutes before they broke the deadlock, when Ethan Reakes fired a great shot into the top corner.
The Bay were under pressure, but were always a constant threat on the counter-attack. Shea Coppin-McQuillan was called into action in goals a couple of times to deny the Bay's opportunities.
The Reds stuck to the task and it paid off with goals for Logan Allison and Scott Tipene making it 3-0 at half-time.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with Narooma enjoying most of the possession and the Bay limited to trying to hit on the counter. Another two goals from Mikayla Holman and Talon De Heaume made sure of the result.
Coach Hoots was happy with both the result and the performance as his team head into the finals.
The Inlet Seafood Restaurant Player of the Match award went to Mikayla Homan.
The Under 13's finished third on the ladder and will play Clyde United SC in the minor semi-final next Sunday in Moruya, kicking off at 10:30am.
