Joan Jordan's unstoppable free-kick sent Sevilla top of La Liga on Sunday, earning the Andalusians a 1-0 win at Alaves.
Julen Lopetegui's side dominated the first half and Jordan's inch-perfect free-kick in the 37th minute sent them in ahead at the break.
The hosts improved at Mendizorroza in the second half but Sevilla came closer to scoring, with Lucas Ocampos's effort hitting the post.
Alaves should have equalised deep in stoppage time but Manu Garcia headed inches wide from close range.
"We played a good game and a really good first half against a difficult opponent who makes everything hard," said Lopetegui.
"The team did what we had worked on well. It was harder in the second half, they were more direct (but) it was a deserved and fair victory.
"Being top tells me nothing because there's such a long way to go, all it says is that the team's doing things well."
Real Betis finished with nine men as they shared an entertaining 1-1 draw with Getafe at the Benito Villamarin.
Jaime Mata sent the visitors ahead from the penalty spot before William Carvalho was sent off for a lunge at Mauro Arambarri as he ran through on goal.
Veteran midfielder Joaquin equalised from the penalty spot at the other end in the second half, before substitute Loren Moren was also dismissed for swinging an arm at Damian Suarez.
Getafe, who were last season's surprise package, are languishing in 18th with three points from three draws after four games, while Betis are 15th.
Espanyol came from behind to earn their first win of the season, a 2-1 victory over Eibar at Ipurua.
Ivan Ramis sent the Basques ahead but Facundo Ferreyra equalised in the 75th minute.
The Argentine suffered a knee injury while scoring and his replacement, Esteban Granero, struck the winner moments after coming on.
Espanyol sit 17th while Eibar are 19th.
Granada earned a 2-0 win at Celta Vigo, with the hosts reduced to nine men after 30 minutes.
Jorge Saenz was sent off in the 10th minute for a stamp on Roberto Soldado's Achilles, with Fran Beltran following him to the dressing room after a studs-up lunge.
German Sanchez broke the deadlock in first half stoppage time, with Yangel Herrera adding another in the second half to send Granada sixth.
Robert Ibanez's goal earned Osasuna a 1-1 draw at Valladolid after Pablo Hervias sent the hosts ahead.
