Far South Coast RFS spokesman Martin Webster said the alleged offender(s) damaged a door but could not get inside.
He said the incident was "disappointing", and cameras have now been purchased to catch future offenders.
He said fundraising money "should be able to help them making their lives a bit easier", instead of being used for security.
"Whilst the NSW Rural Fire Service provides brigades with the majority of their equipment, we fundraise and work very hard to purchase the 'extras'," a Broulee RFB spokesperson said.
"We volunteer our time to serve our community and are so disappointed that someone would violate our trust and take advantage of our ability to serve our community, and ultimately put our community at risk."
Mr Webster said the volunteers were disappointed.
"We had members from Broulee away supporting brigades in the north of the state at the time, which makes it hurt that little bit more," he said.
He said the incident was "an unusual event on the Far South Coast".
In 2014, alleged thieves stole $7000 worth of equipment, including chainsaws, GPS units, radios, recovery gear including winches and slings and an air compressor from the Potato Point RFS shed. Alleged thieves stoles radios and GPS units from Bingie station days after.
