The mist began to clear from the window into the Southern Eurobodalla Pirate's future via the performance of two teens on Saturday. In the First Division loss to third-placed, Eden, it was Josh Piper, 18, with a fighting 33 with the bat. In the Second Division victory against Merimbula it was the 15 n.o. and 2/14 from Logan Allison, 13, that stood out.

In the First Division, the tyranny of distance took its toll and they had difficulty fielding 11 players, with club legend Matthew Corbett levered out of retirement and 2nd Division keeper Rhys Peel stepping up.
Eden won the toss and elected to bat and, at 3/50 with Stuart Piper turning back the clock for all of them, the Pirates had a satisfactory start to a match that seemed out of reach. In a high-scoring season, across the playing surfaces (likely due to the drought) it proved difficult to hold Eden down on their small field as Drew Mudaliar and Tim Bowes scored 192 runs between them, both finishing agonisingly close to centuries on 95 and 97 n.o. respectively. The home side finished on 6/271 from 40 overs.
Chasing a big total, teams can be bowled out cheaply and the Pirates' task was never going to be easy. they didn't back down and the number of "starts" on the scorecard showed batters went to the crease with focus and a positive mindset, lasting 38.4 overs against quality opposition. Piper, with his run-a-ball 33 and his family batting pedigree looks an exciting future star.
Second Division hosted Merimbula at Dalmeny and had different fortunes from the toss. Captain Kyle Field had no hesitation electing to bat and his top order did not let him down. At drinks, they were 1/71, only losing fill-in-opener, Glenn Mackie for a patient 6 from his nine-over stay at the crease.
The home side continued to build and half-centuries from Matt Moore and Kyle Field, and starts from Adrian Ridgely and Geordie McEvoy (33 and 24 respectively) helped them to 205 on a ground that pars at around 125. Of note was Allison's crafty 15, helping Kyle Field make the most of a fairly weak Merimbula attack.
Merimbula's innings was only going to be a formality for the Pirates to tick off with such a large score in the bank and the visitors could only manage 133. Young Riley Dawson bowled superbly for his 1/14 from five overs.
