CanTeen helps young people cope with cancer in their family. Through CanTeen, they learn to explore and deal with their feelings about cancer, connect with other young people in the same position, and if they've been diagnosed themselves, are provided with a specialist, youth-specific treatment team.
17 guests and their carers arrived in Narooma Friday evening, and stayed at the free accommodation provided by Island View Caravan Park, a fantastic gesture they do every year.
Breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday mornings was provided by the fishing club, as was Sunday lunch.
They were also treated to a trip to the Ice-creamery. Funding for this was gratefully received from Woolworths and the Uniting Church Drop in Centre.
Their activities included fishing on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and a spectacular cruise to Montague Island, courtesy of Narooma Charters, Norm and Nick Ingersole and their staff.
On the cruise they saw Dolphins, Seals and Flying Fish. Many thanks to Norm and Nick, in particular, for supporting CanTeen and previously, Camp Quality, for over twenty years.
The kids caught a variety of fish over the weekend, Tailor, Snapper, Bream, Flathead, Trumpeter and Yellowtail.
We must also thank Narooma Marina, Ian Miller and Riverview Houseboats and Bill Dudley for their continued support and hospitality, both again supplying houseboats for the kids to fish off.
Thanks also goes to Amy, from National Parks and Wildlife, on her day off, for escorting the kids on the tour on the Island, explaining the ecology and history of Montague Island.
A thank also to all the club volunteers without them the weekend would not have been possible.
The weather was great, the kids, as usual polite and courteous, and it was another lovely weekend hosting CanTeen.
We look forward to 2021.
Meanwhile, Narooma Sport and Gamefishing Club Junior member, Sam Guy has gone nuts lately catching and releasing some fantastic fish.
Pictured is Sam with a very large Carp and some stunning Dusky Flathead.
Well done Sam
