Results for Australia Day - Sunday 26th January 2020
Australia Day 4BBB Stableford Medley event.
A large field of men and lady players enjoyed a fun filled, dinky di Australia Day celebration in steamy conditions at Bermagui. The patriotic field was awash with green & gold with Aussie flags flying on the suitably decorated carts, buggies and players.
Our Men's Golf president Peter Schmidt, Captain Ray Stephens and an energetic team of willing volunteers did a fantastic job organising the day and providing a magnificent BBQ lunch for all. We had prizes for the best dressed lady (Marion Calder) and man (Peti Fereti) plus best decorated cart (Marion and Barry Calder).
It was a close finish and the subsequent winners of the 4BBB were Tony Langhorn and Ross Simpson with 48 points. Runners up were Vicky and Gus Hummell on 45. Then came Denise and Noel Flavell on 44.
The proceeds from the day were donated to Bermagui RFS as a "thank you" for the above and beyond efforts that they have been putting in for our community in keeping us safe from the bushfire threats.

It was a $210 day on Wednesday with 50 bowlers making up seven rinks of triples and two games of pairs. First prize went to the two game winner with the highest winning combined score and this week the winners were John Voytas, Keith Pickett and Clem Hochkins (skip) who won their matches 14 to 6 and 14 to 10 for a 12 shot margin. Second place went to Steve Murane, Gary Murane and Jeremy Seaton (skip) who won their matches 15 to 10 and 10 to 8 for a 7 shot margin. Third place, decided by first game loser, second game winner and highest winning margin on the winning game, went to Keith Bowater, Neville Butt and John Scott (skip) who had a 23 to 1 win in their last match. The resting toucher, recorded at 1.25 went to Greg Ryan who was on the money, as he usually is, to claim the prize, well done Greg. Thank you to Rapley's Midtown Meat for their continued support.
On Saturday there was a good turnout of players with the money decided by Lowest Winning Margin. First place went to Tony Palmer and Graham Cummins (skip) who had a very tight game with the scores 14 to 13 after 12 ends and 21 all after 23 ends before they hit the lead again and went on to a 26 to 21 win over Col Armstrong and Peter Dillon (skip). Second place went to Craig Campbell, Kevin Callaway and Shorty Smart (skip) who had a great game that was close throughout and after being down 12 to 13 after 10 ends they rallied to take their match 25 to 19 against Barry Turnbull, Paul Naylor and Billy Wilton (skip).
Sunday bowls were abandoned because of the high smoke levels.
Club Fours Championship
There were only four teams in the Fours Championship and all matches were played on Saturday. In the first match Clem Hochkins, Matt Dunn, John Breust and Keith Pickett (skip) led 16 to 4 after 11 ends and took the match 20 to 8 against John Voytas, Neville Butt, Dennis Maggs and Les Waldock (skip). Game two went to Steve Murane, Gary Murane, Jeremy Seaton and Dave Herman (skip)who raced out to a 12 to nil lead after 6 ends. They still led 14 to 5 after 11 ends but after losing 3 ends in a row they were down 14 to 16 after 14 ends. A fightback where they won a shot on each of the remaining ends saw them take the match 18 to 16 against Graham Cummins, Peter Dillon, Tony Palmer and Greg Ryan (skip). The final was played after lunch and once again the team of Steve Murane, Gary Murane, Jeremy Seaton and Dave Herman (skip) raced out to an early 13 to 3 lead after 10 ends before their opponents, Clem Hochkins, Matt Dunn, John Breust and Keith Pickett (skip) came back strongly to lead 17 to 15 after 16 ends. The boys from the bush were not to be denied and they regained the lead and stayed there for a great 23 to 18 win. Monday Charity Bowls Day
On Monday we held a wonderful Charity Day with regular male and female bowlers teaming up with new bowlers for two rounds of fun bowls. Col Armstrong and his able assistants provided a very satisfying BBQ lunch after the first game and after another 14 ends we were all ready to come in for some much needed refreshment. There were many prizes donated by the lady bowlers, the men's club and some generous cash cards from the NSSC. Money raised exceeded $3,000.00 including a generous donation from Mick Clothier from Narooma Concreting so thank you to all for contributing to such a worthy cause, the local RFS. A big thank you to Graham, Stacky, Cummins for his hard work in getting the Charity Day up and running well done.
