Narooma Quota Trivia

It's on again: The Quota Trivia night will be held on Friday, February 21, at Club Narooma, 7pm for 7:30pm start. The February Trivia night is raising money for the Narooma Community Choir, which has decided to donate all proceeds to Dalmeny/Kianga RFS and Wires. Get a group of eight and contact Jenny (0415979786) to book a table. $10 per person includes light supper. The last round of trivia questions will be focused on our community choir and the Narooma community in general.

Attention buskers

Narooma invites all buskers to register for the Narooma Busking Championships which is on Saturday, May 30.

"Online registration is open and we encourage all buskers from NSW, the ACT and north eastern Victoria to come to Narooma," coordinator Di Riley said.

Narooma Rotary is hosting the event, part of the Australian National Busking Championships (ANBC).

"This is Narooma's fourth Busking Championships," Ms Riley said.

"Our community has really embraced this event; the town buzzes from the Flat to the Plaza and music fills the air, making it a really happy occasion.

"It also boosts local businesses because it brings people to Narooma from across south eastern NSW and the ACT at a traditionally quiet time of year, a boost that's needed more than ever this year after the recent fires."

Ms Riley said last year's festival was a great success, with 48 buskers from a wide area.

"We're hoping for even more this year to compete for what we anticipate will be about $10,000 in prize money from our wonderful sponsors," she said.

Last year, ANBC instigator Alan Spencer of Cooma described the Narooma event as "first class, one of the best in Australia".

"Each year it's becoming more professional both in the way it's run and in the standard of performers," he said. "A lot of these buskers even in high school are now getting gigs and that's showing in their growing professionalism."

The ANBC is now a national event with Narooma hosting one of the regional competitions. Regional winners will be invited to compete in the National Grand Final in Cooma in November.
