It was a great day on Wednesday with 60 bowlers making up ten rinks of triples. Winners were decided by Lowest Winning Margin with first place going to Barry Goodwin, Keith Pickett and Clem Hochkins (skip) who were all square at 10 all after 13 ends and after slipping out to an 8 shot lead they had to defend a strong comeback from Neville Butt, Keith Bowater and Col Armstrong (skip) to take the match 19 to 18. Second place went to Paul Naylor, Darrell Goodridge and Billy Wilton (skip) who were down 8 to 12 after 11 ends and then had a great tussle in the second half to gain the lead on the 20th end for a 23 to 21 win against Warren Bender, Paul Harrison and John Downie (skip). The resting toucher, recorded at 2.20 went to John Rowley who was all over the jack all day, well done Rowles. Thank you to Rapley's Midtown Meat for their continued support.
On Saturday there was a good turnout of 40 players with the money decided by Highest Winning Margin. First place went to Tony Palmer and Graham Cummins (skip) who are forming a real combination together and they led all the way for a good win against Neville Butt and Col Armstrong (skip). Second place went to Lester Chapman and Barry Hazelgrove (skip) who had a tight game early to be down 10 to 11 after 13 ends before they closed out the match winning 11 of the next 12 ends for a convincing win against Peter Dillon and John Voytas (skip).
We had a wonderful afternoon of bowls on Sunday with our special group of visitors from Thirroul and also the Gold Coast swelling the numbers to 46 bowlers. Winners were decided by Lowest Winning Margin with first place going to Merran Pell, Bob Murphy and Jim Douglas (skip) who started strongly to set up a good lead only to have Alison, Darrell Goodridge and Ray Dean (skip) fighting back strongly with Jim's team just making it for a 20 to 19 win. Second prize went to Mavis Hardy, Paul Read and Janet Murphy (skip) who were all square at 12 all after 13 ends and 16 all after 15 ends before they edged clear for a 19 to 17 win against Lee Chapman, Shane Parker and Jim Grant (skip). The win tested Janet's shoulder and Jim thought he had won the game with his last bowl but it missed by this much!!!

Narooma Women
Last Tuesday 11 February saw three games of triples and a pairs game played in warm, humid conditions as a result of previous rainy days. Lucky rinks were chosen to select the day's winners and rink eleven came up trumps. Jenny Coulson, Sue Bender and Lee Chapman (visiting skip from Thirroul) played Maureen Findlay. Anne Nicholls (also visiting) and Gail Palmer (skip). Jenny played swinging lead for half the game and both teams won 9 ends each, however Lee's team prevailed to win the match and the prize. Runners up were Mavis Hardy, Cindy Newell and Vicki Herman (skip) who combined well to win against Clare Cork, Heather McGourty and Marg Naylor (skip).
Raffles - Sue Bender (meat tray), Jodie Harrison (Taren Point) fruit tray. To President Vicki Herman, Birthday wishes for next Tuesday 25.
Round One Minor Singles results. Sue Bender d. Heather McGourty; Julie Smith d. Cindy Newell; Clare Cork d. Gail Palmer.
Major Singles entries now open.
Far South Coast District Women's Mixed Bowls
The Far South Coast District Mixed Pairs event was held on Saturday, February 15, at Tuross Head Country Club greens after being washed out the previous week. Bowlers who participated came from Malua Bay, Bermagui, Narooma, Moruya and Tuross Head clubs.
The competition was very strong with bowlers playing a series of two sets of five ends.
A final Round Robin playoff in the afternoon with three pairs, all from Tuross Head, resulted in Peter Davies and Gail Page-Davies being the eventual winners with Sue Fahey and Mick Challice the runners-up. Peter and Gail, who were also the winners of this competition in 2019 will now represent our District at the Regional playoff in May.
The next District event will be the Women's Senior and Open pairs to be played at Tomakin this week.
