Obedience - this training program is important for learning basic handling skills for the owner and socialising their pet dog, leading to many years of happy dog ownership. Narooma Dog Training Club's (NDTC) experienced Instructors are able to help with many canine behavioural problems, such as lunging and jumping, and are happy to answer all questions.
Rally Obedience (also known as Rally or Rally O) is a dog sport based on commands learned in the obedience program. In Rally O the handler proceeds around a course of designated stations with their dog in heel position, under the watchful eye of a dedicated Instructor. The course consists of 10 to 20 signs that 'tells' the handler what to do. This program is open to all handlers who would have completed the Green Class with NDTC.
Agility first appeared in England in 1978 as a demonstration at the famous Crufts Dog Show. The creators of dog agility were inspired by horse jumping competitions. It is intended to show off the natural speed and agility of the dog, and build a common language between handler and dog. The handler uses body language to communicate clearly and guide their dog safely through tunnels, over hurdles and between poles, as well as other obstacles. Agility is also a fun way for both handler and dog to get fit together.
