Animal Welfare League spokesperson Carol Helmers said the 2020 dog training program will reboot cautiously with obedience classes starting on Saturday, election day.
"If all goes well, Agility and Rally Obedience will be resume in August and September," she said.
Classes kick-off on Saturday afternoon at NATA Oval with new registrations encouraged and welcome from 1.15pm.
New handlers must bring dog vaccination papers and pay a half year registration fee, plus $3 per lesson, in cash.
"Handlers that registered prior to the COVID-19 shut down, do not need to pay the $3 lesson fee for any classes for the rest of 2020, to compensate for the loss of training opportunities," Ms Helmers said.
The following procedures must be adhered to, to ensure everyone stays safe and well.
- The 1.5 metre social distancing rule must be observed at all times.
- All handlers must sign in as by law NDTC is required to keep records of attendance for 28 days to assist with COVID-19 tracking, should this become necessary.
- Only handlers and their dogs are allowed onto NATA Oval with visitors being asked to stay outside the fence.
- Hand sanitiser will be provided at key points of entry to NATA Oval.
"Handlers are asked to bring their own pen and the correct cash money to minimise the handling of cash," Ms Helmers said.
"The sale of dog treats, dog health checks and general announcements will not be made until it is safe to do so.
All information will be provided by the instructor and leads, halters and other equipment will be available for purchase.
"These new procedures will most likely slow us down, so we urge you to arrive in plenty of time, as training starts promptly at 2pm," Ms Helmers said.
"More importantly - if you or your dog is unwell, we respectfully ask you not to attend."
"We thank you for your patience and understanding as we reboot our dog training program with these new procedures."
