At its deferred AGM, Bermagui Bowls Club bestowed Life Membership upon Gerry Hammerton. Like most other sporting clubs, Bermagui Bowls has suffered a disrupted season, firstly due to bushfires then followed by coronavirus.
The highlight of the AGM on July 29 was the formal recognition of the outstanding contribution by Gerry to the club and the game of bowls in general. On the green, Gerry has figured prominently in pennant fixtures, special events, tournaments and numerous club championships, usually in the role of skip. He has enjoyed regular success across all formats of the game.
Of equal satisfaction to him has been administration and promotion of bowls for over 27 years, firstly with Bega Bowling Club, and for the last 11 years with Bermagui, including nine as secretary and frequently as team manager.
He has been a delegate and office bearer at district level of Bowls NSW for a total of 18 years.
Many players had their introduction to bowls through Gerry's enthusiastic recruitment and cheerful coaching. Also, Gerry and his wife Lori are well respected throughout the region for their wider community service, particularly with CanAssist (cancer assistance network).
Bermagui Bowls offers a range of playing opportunities, covering social to competition. New players are welcomed and encouraged. Phone 64935909 for further information.

Golf Croquet
The all day marathon tournament on Wednesday at Dalmeny croquet greens, for the annual Golf Croquet Championship Singles (level handicap) competition proved to be a bobby-dazzler of an event.
Eight players competed in 28 games overall, starting at 10am and finally ending at 4.30pm in cool conditions.
The result was a tie between Len Favier and Janet Jones, both winning five games and amassing 46 points from a possible maximum of 49 points.
After adjudicating for some minutes a 'golden point' decision was made by the tournament referee in awarding the title on a countback to an amazed and unbelieving Len Favier, with Janet Jones a very unlucky second place.
Di Sims (scoring several 'jump shot' hoops) and Pauline Wilcock, after putting in strong challenges against the two leaders, were placed third and fourth respectively; followed by Pearl Hanson, Christine Stent, Louise Starkie and Sally McGourty. It was big effort and experience for all.
Thursday was designated a rest day from the regular golf croquet competition. Next scheduled regular golf croquet competition is Thursday, August 13. Bookings to be made with Fay O'Connor, telephone 0421 352 527, or Jean Phillips, keeping to COVID-19 protocols.
The Annual Golf Croquet Championship Doubles (level handicap) competition is on Wednesday, September 9.

The Round 7 match between Pauline Wilcock and Len Favier on Saturday was cancelled due to rain.
Next scheduled association croquet matches:
Regular Association Croquet matches are on Saturday, August 15 and rounds 7, 8, 9 and 10 of the singles championship to be arranged on days agreed by the contestants. Bookings with Christine Stent, telephone 4476 3506, keeping to COVID-19 protocols.
