Batemans Bay Public School student tests positive to coronavirus

A second Batemans Bay school has closed as a student was one of three new coronavirus cases confirmed in the region overnight.

Students at Batemans Bay Public School will learn from home on Tuesday while the campus undergoes deep-cleaning and close contacts are notified.

All students and staff have been asked to isolate while this process is underway.

Another Batemans Bay student tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. Batemans Bay High School was also closed for deep cleaning as a result.

A third case was also identified in the region, the Southern NSW Local Health District confirmed.

A health district spokesperson said all the cases were known close contacts of a recently identified case in Batemans Bay.

Testing capacity has been stepped up to accommodate increased demand.

A pop-up clinic will be established at Hanging Rock operating between 9am and 5pm until Sunday.

NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or has flu-like symptoms to get tested.

Visitors to Batemans Bay and Moruya District Hospitals have been restricted, in a bid to protect patients and staff from the virus.
