Narooma ladies
Narooma ladies played on Wednesday with a field of 35 in a hotly contested Stableford event. Division 1 handicap range was 0-26 with some great scores. Winner was Meriede Banson with 38 points and runner up was Kay Lawrence with 37 points. Division 2 handicap range was 27-45 and was the talk of the day. Sisters Margaret Brown and Libby Shortridge both had good scores, however, Libby came out on top with a 42 and Margaret a 38. Margaret had NTP on the 14th until Libby came along and took the honour. Talk about sibling rivalry. Division 1 NTP on the 3rd was Jan Shevlin and division 2 on the 9th went to Tina Wilson. Balls went to 33.
Narooma Golf Club
An excellent field of 157 players enjoyed fine weather and very amenable greens after the recent coring, thus making scoring a little easier on Thursday. In A Grade Brendan Warby registered on outstanding one-over-par round off his handicap of 8 to record 43 points to win by three points from Clive Williamson and Laurie Holmes on a creditable 40 points. In B Grade Gary Leahy overcame recent average scores to post 42 points off his handicap of 17 to win by three points from Steven Tate and John Lenehan from Nowra on 39 points. C Grade was taken out by Don Helmore with 39 points off his handicap of 32 on countback from Rod Holman while Alby Donnelly was favoured by the countback to finish third with 37 points ahead of Colin Boxsell. The NTP winners were Glenn Mood on 3, Gary Leahy on 9, Laurie Holmes on 14 and Ben Smith on 17. Ball competition to all on 34 points.
Again scoring was easy for the field of 165 players on Saturday, where A Grade was taken out by Brett McCulloch from Mollymook with 41 points off his handicap of 6, albeit on countback from Brett Thompson. Rick Porter filled third place with 40 points. In B Grade Michael Commins prevailed with 42 points off his handicap of 16, followed by Graham Small on 41 points with Peter James edging out Roger Cheel and Tony Cobcroft on countback to take third place on 40 points. In C Grade Trevor Breust came out on top with 39 points off his handicap of 21, one better than Brian Brown on 38 points. Robert Brown finished third in a five-way countback on 37 points, ahead of Trevor Owens, Alby Donnelly, Norm Baxendale and Colin Boxsell ( again!). The NTP winners were Ben Ritchie on 3, Laurie Holmes on 9, Peter James on 14 and Tom Heffernan of Moruya on 17, while the ball competition went down to 35 points with 19 on the way home. RGI
CROQUET
Narooma Croquet Golf Doubles Championships
Last Thursday, in overcast and cool weather conditions, six pairs of doubles teams battled out Narooma's Golf Croquet Doubles Championships at the Dalmeny Club croquet courts. Nine matches were conducted in the morning session after which four teams had two wins and one loss, with the pairing of Di Sims and Pearl Hanson having a slender overall lead by one point.
After lunch there was a session of six further matches, whereby the pairing of Fay O'Connor and Pauline Wilcock, although winning a further two games, were unable to catch the leading pair of Di Sims and Pearl Hanson.
Di Sims and Pearl Hanson are the Narooma Croquet Club golf croquet doubles champions of 2020. In their win, Di and Pearl only dropped one point in their one loss over their five matches. Also, while Di and Pearl put in a 'pearler' of a performance, another highlight on the day was in game four when Fay O'Connor scored a metre-long jump shot hoop when Len Favier's ball looked to be in the 'sweet spot' to score - so 'flukey' Fay did it again. Full score details were as follows:-
