NDTC's dog training programs started late this year due to the January/February bushfire crisis, then ceased abruptly in late March inline with the COVID-19 national lock-down.
Following months of inactivity, and with an approved COVID-19 Safety Plan in place, NDTC successfully rebooted its program in July.
AWL NSW, NDTC secretary Carol Hellmers said they had an overwhelming response.
"Thirty handlers and their dogs signed up for the beginners Dog Obedience program in July/August. These were record numbers and prompted us to impose limits on the intake of the September beginner class.
"Why you ask? Because NDTC Instructors, all dedicated volunteers, wanted to make sure that they had the capacity to meet handler expectations, and continue to deliver a quality program.
"With these aims in mind, plus the ongoing safety of all participants, NDTC is limiting numbers for the October registration as well. October will also be the final registration day for 2020," Ms Hellmers said.
If you are interested in bringing your pet dog along to obedience training you are encouraged to ring as soon as possible to book a place.
The registration fee is $10 per dog, plus $3 per lesson you attend. Weather permitting, new handlers joining the beginner class on Saturday, October 10 will have the opportunity to attend eight lessons before the Christmas break.
"That's plenty of time to learn some basic handling skills and socialise your dog," Ms Hellmers said.
