Jetblack Wild Wombat registrations are open for locals to compete against out-of-towners on Saturday, October 31.

However, the weekend isn't all about mountain biking.

Co-founder of Rocky Trails Juliane Wisata said the event will launch its first trail running race on the Sunday (November 1).

"There are a lot of exciting opportunities and great potential for trail-based events and we believe the location in Mogo and Batemans Bay is an enviable one in the mountain biking community - we know trail runners will be excited to run in these amazing bushland surrounds with us on race day too," Wisata said.

The running event will have flexible start times for runners to complete one, two or three laps of the 9km course.

"The trail runners can start their race loops any time between 8am and 2pm and we will set it up so there's a start and a finishing point on the course - that way, if the athletes wish, they can take a break in between their laps to refuel," Wisata said.

The Central Coast-based events company was one of the first to hold a race during the pandemic.

"We were and continue to be one of the very few cycling events organisers in Australia that managed to return to racing in mid July," Wisata said.

She said mountain biking had boomed with new riders wanting to experience the socially distanced activity.

"Like any sport or activity, mountain biking is an outlet and an escape from every day life," Wisata said.

Initially, Wisata was unsure whether mountain bikers wanted to race under COVID changes.

"At our first event in July, I was shaking - we didn't know how riders would react," she said.

"It was overwhelming how cooperative the riders were as we had completely changed some of the race concepts.

"We have the responsibility to make sure our riders are safe but also represent an industry, so we are taking it very seriously."

Wisata hoped Canberra riders would make the trip down, as they hadn't had a big event since March.

"We are excited to get back to Batemans Bay and Mogo and help tourism, to bring people back to the community," Wisata said.

Some big names had already registered, however, amateur, hobby and family riders were encouraged.

"Elite racers who would normally travel overseas to race have come onto the entry list," Wisata said.

Wisata encouraged local school teams to register.

"A lot of local kids know the trails; it would be good for them to hit at race pace and get their names up on a results board," she said.
