Dalmeny Community Market
Despite the possibility of rain, the patronage at our second market for the year was well attended, with many stallholders please with their takings.
We met a number of new residents in Dalmeny, Kianga and Narooma who recently made the move to our area.
This Lions project now has been registered as a COVID Safe event so people who have the app can use the scan-in bar code as a means of registering instead of the sign-in process. We look forward to the next market on Sunday, November 14, This is the day prior to our fund-raising Wine Drive closing.
We are fundraising for a barbecue trailer with which we can not only barbecue in luxury, but also support our emergency service organizations on the front line. This is in adjunct to supporting the Narooma Evacuation Centre.
You can help by buying wine from our wine drive link at prospectwines.com.au or by direct donation. Phone club secretary Lion Sandy on 0409 813 332 for details.

Vinnies' good news
It's all good news at the Narooma Vinnies Centre. The Anti-Poverty raffle won by Rory Kleeman raised a wonderful $360. Thank you Narooma for your support. Three beautiful clarinets have been donated to the centre and are waiting for some very lucky music lovers to buy them. Finally, to cap things off, did you know that Vinnies now has its own brands? When you come in, you will be happy to find comfortable work socks and boxed men's handkerchiefs. Best of all, though, is the lovely new manchester range - towels, washers, hand towels and even tea-towels at great prices. Worth a look!
From Fez to Casablanca
Art Exhibition 'From Fez to Casablanca' by Cat Wilson opens October 22 at the SoArt Gallery Narooma.
Featuring cyanotype prints and digital collages inspired by the artist's time living in Morocco, the exhibition is on at the SoArt Gallery in Narooma until November 1.
Cat Wilson is an Australian artist working in photography and video. From 2014 - 2017 Cat lived in Casablanca with her Moroccan husband Faouzi Saouli. During that time she had the opportunity to study traditional Islamic geometric design. Cat now lives in Narooma on the far south coast of NSW.
Drawn to Morocco by its rich artisanal heritage, Cat was excited to introduce hand made techniques into her work. Stepping into the ancient medina of Fez is like stepping back in time. Here surrounded by examples of traditional Islamic patterns Cat learned how to construct them and began hand-drawing negatives and using these to print cyanotypes, one of the oldest forms of photographic printmaking.
During this time, Cat also discovered that alongside this rich heritage is a country rapidly modernising and Casablanca, the financial capital, spearheads this trend. Using digital photographs of Casablanca's striking architecture and influenced by her study in geometric design, Cat uses digital collage to explore this tension between the traditional and the modern.
"I love new technologies and the possibilities they open up. But I am also drawn to the methodical, meditative and repetitive process of making things by hand. My time in Morocco, in these two very different cities produced two series of work. Both are studies of pattern and form exploring the tension between the drive towards modernity and nostalgia for the past."
Cat will run a short workshop inside the gallery where participants learn to construct a traditional pattern from Fez using a ruler and compass. They will go on to use techniques to turn this construction into a finished piece in watercolour or gouache.

Montague adventure
What better excursion on an sunny October long weekend than a photo shoot on Montague Island - a piece of paradise in our own backyard.
Following a difficult time with COVID-19 restricting group activities, Eurobodalla Photographic Club members welcomed the easing of restrictions that allowed us to get together and share our passion for photography.
Twenty members enjoyed the hospitality of Narooma Charters for an hour of whale watching and close encounters with Australian and New Zealand fur seals before landing on Montague.
Our thanks are extended to Norm and his crew For the informative commentary on the migrating whale population abundant in our local waters at this time of year.
Although the whales were somewhat shy on our trip most of the participants managed to photograph a few tail flips.
After landing on Montague Island we were greeted by two volunteer guides, Anna and Mel, who spent the next two hours showing our group the local colonies of nesting gulls, terns and penguins.
A tour of the islands buildings and features was complemented by captivating stories of life for those that lived and died on the island and the significance of the landscape to the first nation. If you would like to join our group, email eurobodallaphotographicclub@gmail.com.
