The most interesting match day of croquet for the week turned out to be on Thursday 15 October when a competition of four doubles matches of golf croquet was played on court 1 concurrently with four matches of ricochet croquet, one doubles match and three singles matches, being played on court 2. 'Ricochet croquet' is a hybrid of association and golf croquet with free shots after hitting another ball, but without roquet or croquet shots. Nine players in all enjoyed this innovative competition day. Overall four players featured in two wins each, those being Janet Jones, Louise Starkie, Di Sims and Fay O'Connor, whilst Len Favier was the highest scorer on the day with 21 points in game 3 of ricochet croquet.

Club Dalmeny Men's Bowls
Twentty-nine bowlers (would have been 30 but someone forgot and he should live up to his name having a very red face) under windy conditions organised by Snoopy where the highest winning margin decided the winners on 18 were Peter Rum-back 100, steal Colson and gospeller Bob from the runners-up on 4 in Tea Cartwright and Barry Leg-Inter.
Sailor Brian took out the first resting toucher but the $215 jackpot did not go off while the only wrong bias sinner was Nod-back Hilmore. The raffle run by Boot-print went off to the Rum-ack 100 bloke, John Oarley and John Jnr.
Thursday had 30 bowlers carded by Garry L-Rentacar had the lowest winning margin deciding the winners on 5 in Rabbit Ken, Punter Alan and Chef Keith from the runners-up on 6 in Lois Mac or Greg, Harrold or Jim and our Macedonian Illya. The Rabbit scored again with the first resting toucher but the $100 jackpot didn't go off.
Wrong bias sinners were Ken again and Scrap Metalman Doug and Olwyn ran the lady bowlers raffle well, when the machine worked, to Rabbits again, Garry L (twice sending it round again for) Chef Keith and the Mayoress of course.
On an overcast but rainless (until the last bowl) Friday twilight had 14 bowlers organised by Brett or Graham with Son Neil and the Sienna couple Marg and Don as our winners with our sponsors' prize draws going to Luke Surp-back, Buzz Saw and Peter Wormer. All over the age of 12 are welcome to join in on Friday nights for 2 hours of fun bowls and the signing on sheet will be on the cupboard under to notice board. Games are played in a pairs format and start at 5.30pm so names need to be on the sheet by 4.30pm in order to help organiser Brett with the cards.
In the semi-final round of the mixed pairs championships the Foot-Sen couple Chris and Finn were up against Kath Whiskey an Rye and Buzz Saw who got away early leading 12/2 after 7 ends before Chris and Finn came back to be down 15/8 at the 12 th end then scooting away to lead 17/15 at the 19 th when Kath and Buzz came back to 18-all at the at the 23 rd end and scoring 1 each on the next 2 ends to win 20/18 in a keenly fought game. In another close match early, the Sienna couple Marg and Don played against Gail Close-L and Chef Keith after leading 7/2 after 6 ends they were cut back to 8/7 at the 9th before going on to lead 17/8 at 15, 26/14 at 21 with a strong finish to win 31/16 at the 25 th end. Come along next week to cheer on Kath and Buzz and Marg and Don in what should be an exciting final between 2 evenly matched pairs.
Sadly our singles champ Buzz met another J-B-perch in the first round of the district club champions and was no match for his fired-up younger opponent.
Narooma Ladies Bowls
Social Bowls, October 13: A lovely day for ladies bowls last Tuesday when a small group played triples and pairs, with the day's prize to be decided on 'secret ends'. On rink three Sue Sansom, Sue Bender and Pam Grant (skip) got away to a handy start and despite a late come back by Di Fry, Jenny Coulson and Gail Palmer (skip), they held on for a win. Their good luck continued, claiming the highest secret ends score and the prize. Raffles won by Di Fry (meat tray), Coral Read (fruit tray) thank you to Rapleys Meats for their support and to Sandra Breust. Clare Cork won the 50Club.
Narooma Men's Bowls
Social Men's Bowls Winners' Circle
On Wednesday, we had 7 rinks of triples with winners decided by Highest Winning Margin.
First place went to Mick Cavic, Wayne Harman and Dennis Maggs (skip) who played some top bowls to lead 16 to 5 after 11 ends and continued their good form to win their game 30 to 12 against Don Caldwell, Greg Riley and Jim Grant (skip). Second place went to Neville Butt, Col Armstrong and John Scott (skip) who were all square at 13 all after 14 ends before they got in the groove to take their match 27 to 15 against Scott Kennedy, John Voytas and Les Waldock (skip). Don Caldwell played some good bowls in a losing team and came up with the first resting toucher at 12.58, well done Don.
On Saturday there was a good turn out with winners decided by Highest Winning Margin. First place went to Peter Tinson and Gary Murane (skip) who bolted out of the blocks to lead 22 to 7 after 13 ends and maintained their form for a 34 to 15 win against Peter Murton and John McNamara (skip). Second place went to Craig Campbell, Bobby Robbins and John Scott (skip) who kept their opponents to an unlucky 4 while they picked up 20 shots after 11 ends but things were quite close in the second half as they ran out 27 to 12 winners against Shorty Smart, Billy Wilton and Wazza George (skip).
On Sunday we had 4 games of triples and a game of pairs with the winners decided by Lucky Rinks. First place went to Kerrin Nelson, Jan Rapkins and Terry Lewis (skip) who were down 9 to 12 after 12 ends before they finished strongly to take their match 17 to 16 against Sue Sampson, Sue Wales and Kevin Callaway (skip). Second place went to Graham Horden, Enid Brooker and Bruce Rapkins (skip) led 12 to 7 after 12 ends and continued on their good bowls for a 19 to 13 win against Leo Winter, Mick Cavic and Ken Burrows (skip). Sunday bowls is a great starting point for new bowlers and once again this was proved with both Kerrin Nelson and Graham Horden playing very good bowls on their first day of competition. Well done and we look forward to seeing you and our other new bowlers back on the green in coming weeks.
Triples Championship
Only one Triples Championship match was played this week, the semi-final between John Voytas, Darrell Goodridge and Les Waldock (skip) and Clem Hochkins, Keith Pickett and John Breust (skip) It was a very close game with Les's team getting away to a good start to lead 9 to 7 after 10 ends. John; team then found form to pick up 6 of the next 7 ends to lead 25 to 11 after 17 ends and they continued their good bowls for a 31 to 13 win. Clem, Keith and John are now in the final which should be played this week.
