Through the state government initiative, Great Southern Nights, music venues will host gigs to support the region's economic recovery.

Regional music officer Sats Kramer of Music NSW said it has been financially difficult for venues to put on shows.

He said funding of $2500 per show helps the venue set up the gig and support the artist.

"Music is important for a community especially a community coming out of bushifres and pandemic - it can be a healing experience - it has been a rough year," Mr Kramer said.

After a tumultuous year, Mark Ethel of the Waterfront Hotel Moruya said the Southern Nights initiative, as well as ticket sales, will put money back in local artists' pockets.

"Some haven't played a gig since 2019," he said.

"We have an amazing array of local talent.

"There's Daniel Champagne, Spindrift Saga with two young supporting acts and Sam Rees who goes by Samuel J.R."

Mr Ethel said the coast has been "starved" of live music this year.

"There has been a real gap - people need to get back and connect," he said.

"The first six months were extremely tough for all businesses after bushfires and COVID.

"We have been fortunate to keep business going with Job Keeper, but one area that missed out was the music and arts industry - an area I am passionate about and wanting to support."

The Waterfront Hotel has live music from 2pm every Sunday throughout November, with tickets selling fast.

Other shire venues hosting Great Southern Nights gigs include the Nelligen Steampacket Hotel, Batemans Bay's JJ's at The Marina, Tomakin's Smokey Dan's, Moruya Golf Club and the Tuross Head Country Club. To see event dates, locations and lineup, visit greatsouthernnights.com.au

The initiative is delivered by Destination NSW in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association. All music events are programmed in line with current government health advice regarding physical distancing and venue capacity of public gatherings.
