Strong winds and very warm conditions made scoring difficult for the field of 135 that hit the fairways on Thursday.
A Grade resulted in a four-way tie on 37 points where the countback favoured Geoff Lanham off a handicap of 12, ahead of Tom Heffernan from Moruya and Chris Hewitt with Brett Thompson missing out.
In B Grade Peter O'Kane posted the best total of the day in scoring 41 points off his handicap of 20, with Wayne Houston and Graham Tasker in the minor positions with 39 and 38 points respectively.
In C GradeTrevor Owens needed a favourable countback after scoring 38 points off his handicap of 27 to head Geoff Broadfoot, with Ian Lowe in third place one point further adrift on 37 points. The NTP winners were Rick Porter on 3, Graham Mumme on 9, Bill Durnan on 14 and David Bennett on 17, while the ball competition went down to 32 points with 18 on the way home.
High scoring was the order of the day on Saturday when the excellent field of 181 players took to the course. This was particularly the case in A Grade where former local Joel Campbell from Cranbourne parred the course in registering 44 points off his handicap of 8. Bill Swan was runner-up with 42 points while Nigel Roberts edged out Rod Streater on countback on 41 points to take third position. Worthy of special mention are the rounds of Scott Ker and Murray Walpole where both scored 40 points, the former with a round of four under par and the latter with a round of two under par, yet without special reward.
In B Grade a five-way countback on 38 points saw Michael Commins prevail off his handicap of 14, with Lil Seeto from Kogarah and Neil Robertson in the minor places, while Robert Coulson and Tony Boyd from Goulburn missed out. In C Grade the old warrior Stewart Murray again put it together to register 42 points off his handicap of 26 to win easily from Lyle Healey on 39 points. Lenore McKinniery from Kogarah edged out Margot Mason from New Brighton on countback to take third place on 38 points. The NTP winners were Mike Shevlin on 3, Peter James on both 9 and 14, and Rod Streater on 17, while the ball competition went down to all on 35 points. RGI

Golf Croquet
A hot sunny day greeted seven competitors in the golf croquet competition on Thursday morning on the greens at Dalmeny Club. In a two hours and 30 minutes time period five matches were conducted, all on court 1, two doubles games, two mixed doubles/singles games and one singles game. The upshot was that Janet Jones and Helen Stannard both figured in two wins each, playing together in one doubles match win, but with the latter playing solo in one match win. Also Len Favier won two matches, both when playing solo, but lost his third match. Heather McGourty figured in her first ever golf croquet win when partnering Janet Jones in a doubles match.
Full results of the five games were:-
Game 1 - Janet Jones and Helen Stannard 7 def Pearl Hanson and Sally McGourty 2; Game 2 - Len Favier 7 def Louise Starkie and Heather McGourty 3; Game 3 - Heather McGourty and Janet Jones 7 def Pearl Hanson and Louise Starkie 4.; Game 4 - Helen Stannard 7 def Len Favier and Sally McGourty 4; Game 5 - Len Favier 7 def Louise Starkie 3.
Next week the regular golf croquet competition is scheduled for the Dalmeny Club greens on Thursday morning December 3 at 9am.
Wednesday golf croquet twilight play and Friday association croquet twilight play (at 4pm) during November and December of this calendar year will only be conducted when booked beforehand. Trial days, with coaching provided by club captain Christine Stent are only now available by pre-booking.
All bookings (golf croquet, association croquet and trial days) for the rest of this calendar year are be made with Fay O'Connor, telephone 0421 352 527, keeping to COVID-19 protocols.
Association Croquet
With some regular players absent last Tuesday morning it was decided to experiment with the association croquet schedule and conduct a match of 'ricochet croquet' between Janet Jones and Len Favier. In ricochet croquet two free strokes are awarded for every roquet shot, but there are no croquet shots. Len Favier got to an early lead at hoop 3, and then he faltered with some missed shots to allow Janet Jones to catch up, pass and hold the lead to the end, winning at the centre peg with 26 points with Len Favier on 16 points.
Absent were Pauline Wilcock and Dianne Sims, both on holidays. Christine Stent had a bye. Friday Twilight schedule. No association croquet played.
On Saturday morning a challenge association croquet match between Pearl Hanson and Len Favier was scheduled but had to be cancelled because of the heat wave weather conditions.
Next week two days of association croquet competition are scheduled for the Dalmeny Club greens, on Tuesday morning, December 1 at 9am, and on Saturday morning at 9am. Association croquet on Friday twilight time (at 4pm) will also be conducted if pre-booked as above.
Bowls
Club Dalmeny
Things were going okay for our 32 Monday bowlers only to be washed out after seven ends when a sudden and very wet downpour covered our greens putting paid to any further bowls so lucky rinks decided the winners on rink 9 in Shark Finn, Cobber Dudley and our Macedonian Illya from the runners-up on rink 13 in the swinging scrapmetal man Doug, Snoopy Leigh and Emberly Footprint. No resting toucher was recorded, nor did the $375 jackpot go off as well as no-one owning up to a wrong bias. The raffle prizes went off to Sailor Brian, Danny Boy and Graham or Brett.
The Goose's visit to Bega to look after his co-pilot felt the heat followed by a southerly-buster allowed him to appreciate the same conditions that faced a green full of 48 Dalmeny and the Illawarra Steelers visiting bowlers. The games were organised by the open draw system which appeared to result in a very convivial mixture and plenty of comments were heard about doing the same again next year as they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Some obviously losing Dalmenian players made the observation that as the visitors won most of the money and raffles they would be better named "Robbers".
It was great to see 16 twilight bowlers turning up to be expertly organised by Brett or Graham which deservedly had our winners in Brett and Tony Rang-a-ghan with our sponsors' prize draws going to Linda or Malcolm, who rang Tony and Ian Unpaid. We would love to see all interested players over the age of 12 to join in on Friday nights for two hours of fun bowls and the signing on sheet will be on the cupboard under the notice board. Games are played in a pairs format (but single entries accepted) and start at 5.30pm so names need to be on the sheet by 4.30pm.
The 100-Up matches are all about consistency and the semi-final games proved just that although both games were a little one sided which should bring about a competitive final. (Handicaps in brackets) with Punter Alan (6) outplaying Browny (8) convincingly 105/55 in 16 ends and Sailor Brian (2) going down to Buzz Saw (0) 106/74 after 17 ends.
Narooma men's bowls
Social Bowls Winners' Circle
On Wednesday we had bowls in the morning and afternoon as we hosted the Steelers. It was a successful day and some good results were recorded. Terry Lewis and John Downie (skip) had a good win and Peter Dillon, Greg Ryan, Tiger Fryer and Stacky Cummins helped to ensure that Narooma ended up with a solid win. Thank you to Col, Neville, Clare and Jo for making sure the players were well fed with a delicious lunch.
On Saturday there was a great turnout with the Steelers having the last hit out of their trip and while the focus was on the Wollongong Cup, which Narooma retained with a good win, winners were decided by Lucky Rink.
First place went to Vince Stocks, Dave Halloran, Cuz Wilton and Jim Grant (skip) who played their normal top bowls to get the upper hand over Terry Fayer, John Redman, Vic Orr and Steve Valandys (skip). Second place went to Jim Baker, Jay Guernsey, Graham Cummins and John Scott (skip) and with Jim and Jay carrying the team they proved too strong for Les Kew, Phil Doran, Butch Cartright and Kevin Cromac (skip). Even though the weather was quite oppressive all teams enjoyed a great social afternoon.
On Sunday we had two games of triples and two games of pairs with the winners decided by Lucky Rinks. First place went to Sue Waldock, birthday girl Kaye Whiffen and Baxter Smith (skip) who showed their continued top form to lead all the way for a 15 to 6 win against Rob McIntyre, Merran Pell and Bruce Rapkins (skip). Second place went to Jan Rapkins and Terry Lewis (skip) who led 10 to 9 after 11 ends and the match remained close throughout before they ran out 17 to 14 winners against Olwyn Maher and Julie Smith (skip).
Welcome back Rob and also thank you to all who played out of their comfort zone. It was great to see our regular Sunday bowler John Breust showing top form over the weekend to take out the Zone Champion of Champions Singles title and now goes on to play in the State Finals. Well done John and best of luck in the State Finals.
Dixie Deane Triples
The one match played on Sunday proved to be a great crowd pleaser. Tony Fryer, Jim Grant and Jeremy Seaton (skip) were up against Peter James, Jeff McCusker and Peter McKay (skip) and Jeremy's team started well to grab the early lead and after 13 ends they led 11 to 7. Peter's team then came back strongly with a great bowl that took the jack back to turn a 4 shot deficit into a 6 shot pick up on end 14 and from there on they retained the lead to take the match 18 to 16. Well done Peter, Jeff and Peter and best of luck in the final.
Narooma women's bowls
There were two games of triples played last Tuesday, the winners decided by the team with the lowest winning score. Betty Greenshields, Clare Cork and Dawn Kenny (skip) were nine all after nine ends against Betty Greenshields (swinging lead), Jan Rapkins and Leila Gosper (skip). Then Leila's team edged in front and held on for a 16 - 15 win to claim the day's prize. Pam Grant was the lucky 50Club winner. The meat prize went to Cindy Newell, Dawn Kenny won the fruit tray.
Ladies, a reminder to join us for Christmas lunch following bowls on the December 15. A list for attendance and lunch is on the notice board in the ladies' locker room. Presentations will also be made during this time. Hope to see you there. Bitmoregrass
