The highlight of the week for Narooma Croquet Club competition was on Thursday in match eight of golf croquet. In this singles match, Len Favier had the brown ball sitting in the jaws of hoop 2, in danger of being knocked out from the scoring area by the pink ball of his competitor Fay O'Connor. Len's green ball had been ruled offside and had to be repositioned on the sideline way across the court, at an angle, 40 metres away. From this seemingly impossible position Len played a long, straight shot with the green ball to strike the brown ball flush on the nose and through the hoop to score.

Association Croquet
Friday, twilight schedule: On a mild afternoon last Friday, on court 2 of the Dalmeny Club greens, one time-limited match of six ball association croquet was played. The game proved to be an even tussle between the eventual winner, Pauline Wilcock (returning from holidays) with10 points, Len Favier coming second on seven points and Christine Stent on five points.
On Saturday morning of last week two matches of handicap association croquet were conducted on court 2 of the Dalmeny Club greens. The contestants were Pearl Hanson (handicap 18), Janet Jones (handicap 11), Len Favier (handicap 20) and Pauline Wilcock (handicap 16).
In game 1, in accordance with the handicaps, Pearl Hanson was allowed seven free shots - called bisques - in playing against Janet Jones. When the time limit was reached Janet won the match with 23 points against Pearl with 9 points.
In game 2 between Pauline Wilcock and Len Favier, with the handicap difference of four, Len Favier was allowed four free shots (bisques). This match was closely contested with first one player, then the other, having at various times a lead of only one or two points. When the time limit of two hours and 15 minutes was reached the contestants were level pegging at 14 points each. Hence the referee ordered an extra 15 minutes of play to break the deadlock, but when the extra time was up the score was 15 all, so the match was declared a tie.
Next week two competition days of association croquet competition are scheduled for the Dalmeny Club greens, on Friday at twilight time (4pm) and on Saturday morning at 9am. Until the New Year there will be no association matches scheduled for Tuesdays.
