NAROOMA CROQUET
Thursday, February 11: Six matches of golf croquet were scheduled on the Thursday over an extended period of 2.45 hours with only one green being currently utilised. In game No 1 Len Favier played determinedly in a singles match against Janet Jones. Len had a lead of 6 points to 4 after the tenth hoop, with Janet fighting back to level 6 all after completing the round of twelve hoops. Thus a deciding thirteenth hoop (red hoop) was required to break the score deadlock. Len managed to score the decisive hoop and win 7 to 6. Games 2 and 3 were also tight finishes, again requiring the tie-breaking thirteenth hoop to break the deadlocked scores of six all after the twelfth hoop. Another stand out performer was Christine Stent, who played doggedly all morning, staving off the opposition each time (with help from novice Mary Ryan in one match) to figure in two wins. Paul Chenoveth, battling a lone hand at times and leading early in both his games, just went down in games 3 and 6. Results: Game 1 - Len Favier 7 def Janet Jones 6. Game 2 - Cathy Sforcina and Pearl Hanson 7 def Helen Stannard and Louise Starkie 6. Game 3 - Christine Stent and Mary Ryan 7 def Paul Chenoveth and Sally McGourty 6.
