Club Narooma is displaying knitted poppies to help raise awareness of National Animals in War Remembrance Day - a project close to the heart of Fay Prideaux who is a primary teacher and librarian at Yarrawarrah School in Sydney's south.

"Club Narooma has the only memorial to Animals in War in NSW and agreed to be the venue for the project; a public display of over 1800 poppies, all handknitted and crocheted," Ms Prideaux said.
Ms Prideaux launched a Facebook page requesting knitted and crocheted poppies for the display.
More than 2500 poppies were donated by women from Victoria, Queensland, NSW, South Australia and Tasmania, several of whom have links with dog handlers and veterans.
On Wednesday, February 23, Ms Prideaux's school is holding a Purple Poppy Day where students dress in purple, wear a knitted poppy and donate a gold coin with proceeds going to the RSPCA with a request to fund assistance dogs for soldiers suffering PTSD.
"My long term plan is to engage more primary schools in participating in an Animals in War Remembrance Day fundraiser using this experience as a model," Ms Prideaux said.
Ms Prideaux thanked Gillian Kearney for helping organise a ceremony at Club Narooma. She also thanked Bunnings and Whale Coast Realty for sponsoring the project.
