Nation's best golfers set for South Coast comp

The Moruya Golf Club is ready to host the biggest event for golfers on the South Coast this weekend.

The South Coast Open is a state qualifying event, which will see golfers come from far and wide to compete. Kicking off the weekend will be a Pro Am event on Saturday, where amateurs play with professionals, competing for a large prize pool.

Any amateurs willing to have a crack on Saturday can book through the Moruya Proshop, call 0244742300. Breakfast and dinner is provided.

A local radio station will be broadcasting live from the event on Saturday before the NSW Open Qualifier, held over two days on Sunday and Monday.

Players will compete for a prize pool of $50,000 and the top three place getters qualify for entry into the NSW Open at Concord Golf Club beginning March 25.

"Our three locals will be competing against some of the best players in Australia, such as Marcus Fraser, Matt Millar, Peter Lonard, Brendan Jones and Simon Hawkes to name a few."

Prowse hoped spectators would come and get check out some top quality golf.

"Spectators are welcome to come along and enjoy two great days golf where you can follow these players around the course," he said.

All spectators are reminded to check in following COVID protocols on arrival, before heading out on the course to see the players in action.

"Please follow all current social distancing rules in place through NSW Health," Prowse said.

There will be a BBQ on Sunday and Monday with drink specials for spectators.

"With the golf course presenting in fantastic condition, it will be a great event not to be missed," Prowse said.
