"It is with great sadness that we say 'farewell' to Sandra Jacqueline Smith (known as Jacqui) a long-time teacher at Bodalla Public School who passed away on Friday, May 14 following illness," Max Wallace retired Bodalla Public School principal said.
"Jacqui actually began her teaching career at Bodalla Public School in 1975 and then transferred to St Marys in Sydney after being at Bodalla for eight months.
"Following various teaching appointments across the state, we were again lucky to have her transfer from Oaklands Public School back to Bodalla Public School in 1990 where she took up the newly created executive teacher role and soon after, was renamed assistant principal, a position she held until her retirement in 2010," Mr Wallace said.
"Jacqui Smith was a passionate teacher, totally dedicated to the children under her care as well as all other children in the school. Apart from being a highly successful classroom teacher, she undertook special training to become Bodalla's first Reading Recovery Teacher. In this new role, she was able to successfully teach children in the early grades the wonders of learning to read," Mr Wallace said.
Jacqui Smith lived at Tuross for 30 years is survived by sisters, nieces and nephews. A funeral for Jacqui is at the Broulee Crematorium on Friday, June 4, starting at 1pm, followed by afternoon tea at Moruya Bowling Club.
In lieu of flowers, Jacqui's family have asked that donations be made to a charitable organization which fosters the wellbeing of children, there will be a collection box at the crematorium.
