The Eurobodalla Shire Council was concerned about public safety on Araluen Road, west of Moruya, which has parts closed due to a series of landslips since the bushfires and floods.

Property owner Gabrial Ingram has hosted the event, Psyland, for a number of years.

He was told by police on Wednesday (June 9) about the public safety issue. The council issued an "Emergency Stop Use Order" directing the event not be held.

People attending the event would be required to drive on the Knowles Creek landslip detour which was restricted to residents only.

"The current road conditions were the main reason for issuing the Emergency Order," a council spokesperson said.

"There is clearly an unacceptable risk to public health and safety by adding potentially hundreds of extra vehicles to a road where multiple landslips have occurred in recent months as a result of fires and floods, and with more rain expected ahead of the weekend."

There were about 500 people expected to attend the event over the long weekend on private property, with onsite camping.

"We were waiting to see if the road was going to be safe, if it wasn't, we were going to close it anyway," Mr Ingram said on Friday.

"We have shut it down, and it's just the crew in here now - the people who have spent the last two weeks working to set it up."

It was scheduled to be the final Psyland event on Mr Ingram's property before he moved interstate.

"It was the last Psyland send off, we were throwing in a going away party as well," he said.

Mr Ingram said the event was equipped with paramedics on site, and a crowd safety company was contracted to provide 30 staff.

"It's an event people have been going to for 10 years," he said.

"People are so lovely, we have never had fights, nothing.

"It's a nice place for people to share, whether you are a mum or with kids.

"For people who set up their market stalls, it's sad for them to miss out - it's a lifestyle for people."

Mr Ingram wished there were more options in the shire for family entertainment.

"Name three places you can take your kids - the council needs to start doing something for the area, the same as Araluen road - it has been neglected," he said.

Mr Ingram said on three occasions the council issued fines of $3000.

A "council spokesperson said: "We won't comment on the specifics of previous penalties, but can confirm multiple infringement notices have been issued, highlighting that the owner organised this event with the full knowledge consent from council was required,

Mr Ingram said it was too costly of a process to gain the council's approval.

"I couldn't afford a whole year with paperwork and get to the end and it not go through," he said.

Artist Loky Watt, "Banker", of Canberra House Social was one of many scheduled acts to play in the lineup.

"It's like a family get together once a year, where everyone comes from all places," he said.

"It's a regular crew who always save the date - event though it's cold and miserable this time each year, everyone still shows up."

Coming from Canberra, Mr Watt and his mates would travel along Araluen Road from Braidwood into the valley.

"Usually it's a nice drive," he said.

However, the Eurobodalla Shire Council sent out a media release yesterday (Thursday, June 10) urging people not to attend.

Banker read the news on social media and received an email from event organisers.

"I heard the council news about the road being damaged and dangerous, we speculated until we got an email saying it was cancelled," he said.

"I was disappointed, but if the road and everything was going to be compromised, I don't want the locals to be upset, it's not what the event is about. It's meant to be inclusive."

Mr Watt said Psyland was a party in the bush, "camping with your friends and listening to music".

"I am from a house-music collective and it's wholesome to get together with drum and base, techno and psy-trance artists," said.

Chief Inspector Greg Flood of Batemans Bay Police said signage will be in place alerting motorists that roads into the Araluen Valley were only to be used by residents.

"Police will be assisting the Eurobodalla council with traffic control, ensuring that the roads into the Araluen valley are used by residents only," he said.

"Police will assist in enforcing compliance of these council regulations."

Mr Flood said police were also conducting patrols on Larrys Mountain and Maulbrooks Road roads over the long weekend.

"Police are asking people to be considerate of the residents of the Araluen Road area and be aware that any increased traffic on these roads into the valley will mean an increased risk of accident or injury to road users given both the road and weather conditions," Mr Flood said.

"Police are urging people to drive to the conditions over this holiday period."
