The golf croquet competition last Monday was highlighted by the participation of Marion van Zanen, a visiting player from Jamberoo. Seven players competed in four matches of golf croquet and one match of ricochet croquet. In ricochet croquet two extra shots are earned after a roquet shot on another ball. Honours for the morning's play were fairly even with the winning margins being only one or two points. Fay O'Connor and Marion van Zanen were judged as the most consistent. Detailed scores were:

Narooma Golf Club
The threat of unpleasant weather on Thursday reduced the field to 120 players who found scoring somewhat difficult. In A Grade Hal Fraser prevailed on countback over Paul Lefel after scoring 37 points off his handicap of 12, while Scott Harris went round in one under the card with 36 points to edge out Mark Elmasri, Mark Anderson and Graeme Sawyer on countback to take third place. In B Grade Michael Pollock was favoured by the countback when registering 37 points off his handicap of 15 ahead of Tony Cobcroft with Bill Anderson in third position on 36 points. C Grade was taken out by Graeme Donohoe with 37 points off his handicap of 22 on countback from Gary Schmidt with Ed Haysom in third place on 36 points on countback from Jim Doel. The NTP winners were Don Waterfield on 3, Allan Maddison on9, Mark Elmasri on 14 and Gary Schmidt on 17, while the ball competition went down as far as Jock Munro on 33 points on a countback.
There were four eagles on the 8th off the forward tees with the nest being shared between Bill Anderson, Robert Coulson, Bruce Day and Phil Haynes. It was overall a day of unusual coincidences: the three grades were won with 37 points on a countback with the third place on 36 points; the two father-son groups in the field were tied, Bill and Mark Anderson in positions 11 and 12 on 36 points and Laurie and Colin Holmes in positions 21 and 22 on 34 points and in each case the father headed the son on countback.
The field was even further reduced to 104 players on Saturday because of the weather and scoring was even more difficult with the strong winds and damp fairways with only two players beating their handicap and two equalling it. In A Grade Bill Hannam was at last favoured by a countback to win with 35 points off his handicap of 8 ahead of Bill Swan with Callum Annand in third place on 33 points. In B Grade Grahame Cooke continued his recent good form in posting 38 points off his handicap of 20 to win by two points from Colin Pratt while Ben Smith took third position with 34 points on countback from Matthew Klose and Peter Elliott. In C Grade Tim Short posted the best score of the day with 39 points off his handicap of 21, followed by Kevin Evans from Ryde-Parramatta and Lyle Healey on 36 and 35 points respectively. The NTP winners were Mick Miller from Royal Canberra on 3,Tony Cobcroft on 9, Neil Towers on 14 and Chris Ritchie on 17, while the ball competition went down as far as Josh Rainsford from Queanbeyan on 31 points on countback. Bowls
Narooma men's bowls
We had 30 bowlers making up five rinks of triples on Wednesday. Winners were decided by Lowest Winning Margin and this week the winners were Peter James, Peter Dillon and Mitch Mitchell (skip) who had a close game with the scores 12 all after 13 ends and 18 all after 20 ends before they picked up one shot on the last end to take their match 19 to 18 against Tony Fryer, Mick Cavic and Greg Ryan (skip). Second place went to Scott Kennedy, Tony Cobcroft and Keith Pickett (skip) who were down six to 12 after 11 ends before steaming home for a 19 to 16 win against Allan Chisholm, Rod Holman and Peter Jones (skip). Peter Hawker had the first resting toucher at 2.58, just ahead of Cobby at 3.00, well done Peter. Thank you to Rapley's Quality Meat, Narooma Plaza, for their continued support.
On Sunday we had 20 bowlers turn out with winners decided by Lucky Rinks, after rain stopped play, and first place went to Sue Bender and Greg Maloney (skip) who had a three to two lead after six ends before they put down some serious bowls to draw clear for a 14 to five win against Jan Rapkins and Warren Bender (skip). Second place went to Sue Wales, Pat Wood/Merrie Downie and Darrell Goodridge (skip) bolted out of the blocks to lead 14 to four after 11 ends and maintained their lead to take their game 17 to eight against Rob McIntyre, Peter Hawker and Ken Burrows (skip).
Minor Singles Championship
Two games were played over the weekend with John Redman playing Peter Dillon with Peter taking a solid 13 to eight lead after 14 ends before he put a good streak of ends together to extend his lead to 27 to 10 after 24 ends. John came back but Peter consolidated to take the match 31 to 15. Peter Jones played Mick Cavic in the other game and in a close game early, he led 11 to eight after 11 ends. Peter then took six of the next eight ends to draw clear 25 to 11 and continued his good form to take his match 31 to 18.
Club Dalmeny
Mr T rightly carted the 32 bowlers together on a fine Queen's birthday holiday Monday with the points system coming out to decide the winners on 20 in Cobber Dudley, Tom's son Ken and John Blue-boy from the runners-up on 19 after countback in Tony Ring-a-Gan, Pommie Pete and Off-White Ham or Brett. The Pom scored the first resting toucher while the $192 jackpot didn't go off. The wrong bias sinners included Snoopy, Cobber Pete and Tom's son Ken and the lucky losers on rink 8 were Big John Oarley, Browny and Par Budin. Browny sold the winning raffle tickets to Dig Sims, G-Harry Lavis and John Blueboy.
Thursday gave us a fine sunny afternoon for a change which saw 26 bowlers flight planned by Snoopy for once again the points system to decide the winners on 191/2 in Nek-back Bennie, Cobber Peter and Punter Alan from the runners up on 19 in Ken Rabbits, Dig Sims and Brett Off-white Ham again. The first resting toucher was again scored by VP Pete but the $147 jackpot didn't go off. Wrong bias sinners included Val D-eat, Bennie and Cobber Pete had two while the raffle run by Chris went off Hansenly with the winners being Yours Truly, the Punter and Lyn Rum-back 100.
The first round of the minor pairs championship was played in overcast brisk weather with drizzly rain to finish on the one game played that saw Cowboy Roy's boy Mike and Browny lead from the second end all the way against T Draywrong and the Macedonian Illya until the last regulation end when still ahead by two shots on the card and the end with one bowl to play which just happened to push the jack away to score two and even the game. From the sideline reports Mr T played two of his best bowls all day which saw a St George style come from behind win for himself and skip, Browny, 20/18 at the 22nd end.
Narooma women's bowls
A small group of ladies ventured onto the green to play triples last Tuesday. The team accumulating the highest winning score was drawn to win the day's prize. On rink 11 Jan Rapkins teamed up with Jenny Coulson and skip Leila Gosper against Heather McGourty, Anne Hunter and Barb McNamara (skip). After nine ends Leila's team was two shots ahead before going on for a convincing win and winning the 'money'. The meat raffle was won by Cindy Newell, thank you to Rapley & Son Plaza Meats for your support.
Club Pairs starteded last Friday following two earlier rain delays, in chilly, drizzly conditions. Pam Grant and Gail Howe (skip) had a good contest against Clare Cork (sub for Sue Wales) and Jean Vos (skip), score five all after eight ends then two ahead after 13. Pam and Gail proved too strong in the end, advancing to round 2. Following a round one forfeit by Marg Naylor, in the second round Jan Rapkins and Lorraine Mitchell (skip) met Cindy Newell and Vicki Herman (skip) who had a first round bye. A hard-fought game, Jan and Lorraine were held to a one shot advantage after nine ends and were just ahead after 14, before picking up the pace to claim the match in the final stages.
