Already dozens of people have been charged and fined but having received more than 5000 tip-offs and identified more than 200 people, the special task force set up after the Sydney protest expects those numbers to grow.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews described protesters as "selfish" but was reasonably confident it would not become a super-spreader event.
Victoria's premier says the state is "well-placed" to end its fifth lockdown as planned this week, though some restrictions are likely to remain for some time.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian was less upbeat and reports of the Sydney lockdown extending to September are circulating today.
"We know that events like that can cause those super-spreading events," she said on Sunday, as the state recorded 141 new COVID-19 cases and saw two deaths.
The good news for the state is that PM Scott Morrison has promised an additional 90,000 Pfizer vaccine doses for crisis-hit NSW in the coming week and up to 110,000 more doses in the following weeks.
On a drug of another kind ... More than four per cent of Australians who have never tried cannabis would do, if lawmakers legalised its use, a new study has found.

Swimmers look to strike gold at the Tokyo Olympics
After yesterday bagging a gold in the pool at the Tokyo Olympics, the Aussies are hoping for more of the same today.
The women's 4x100m freestyle relay team set a world record in the final, and now have won gold for Australia in that event at three straight Olympics. And one of that team - Emma McKeon - is in finals action later this morning.
McKeon will swim the 100m fly at 11:30am; Ariarne Titmus will face off with Katie Ledecky in the 400m freestyle at 12:20pm and the men's 4x100m free relay will try to emulate their teammates at 1:05pm.
In late-night action in Japan and just three days after "shocking the world", the Olyroos showed incredible spirit in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Spain on Sunday night.
After dominating possession and territory for the majority of the game, Mikel Oyarzabal's 80th minute header proved the difference at Sapporo Dome.
