On Sunday, December 5, the annual St Cecilia Youth Music Scholarship will hold its final concert at St Bernards Church in Batehaven. The committee, which has held the scholarships for 26 years, received 34 applications from young musicians aged between 10 and 18 years of age.
From that group, the committee has chosen 12 finalists to play across two sections (classical and contemporary) at the concert. The scholarships are more than $5000. The concert will be held at 3pm. Tickets are $10 at the door; under 19s are free. Final awards will be announced at the concert.
Project underway
The project to construct Narooma Arts and Community Centre is now underway following the signing of the Funding Deed by both Narooma School of Arts and the NSW Government.
The costs of the project will be met by a $7.27m grant from the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery (BLER) Fund jointly funded by the NSW and Australian Governments.
Now that the deed is signed, architects CK Architecture have started on the detailed design work for the project with a team of structural and civil, electrical, mechanical and fire engineers.
"We're absolutely thrilled to be finally starting after months of negotiations and years of planning," Narooma School of Arts president Jenni Bourke said.
Detailed design work will take several months. The construction certificate and call for tenders will follow.
Work is scheduled to start on site about May 2022 with the centre due to open its doors in the second half of 2023.
Mrs Bourke said the project will have major community health and wellbeing benefits for the whole region as well as economic benefits through cultural tourism, training and job opportunities.
