However, that figure is expected to jump considerably once rapid antigen test (RAT) results are included in official numbers, reportedly later this week.
In the latest report from SNSWLHD, Bega Valley recorded 62 new positive cases in the 24 hours to 8pm Sunday, January 9.
That's on top of 78 Saturday and 10 in the 24 hour period prior to that.
In the Eurobodalla, 27 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours as new infections remain steady - Friday and Saturday recorded 36 new cases each day.
The Southern NSW Local Health District reported 374 new cases in the 24 hours to 8pm Sunday. That's slightly up from the previous day's total of 308.
In addition to Bega Valley and Eurobodalla's figures, 54 are in the Goulburn Mulwaree LGA, 140 are in Queanbeyan Palerang, 32 in the Snowy Monaro, 12 in the Upper Lachlan and 47 are in the Yass Valley LGA.
There are currently 2993 active cases across the SNSWLHD. Of those, nine are in hospital, two in the ICU. Seventy-six active cases are in virtual care and there have been four deaths since June 2021.
SNSWLHD has previously announced it would not be reporting specific locations of positive cases given the increasing numbers involved.
"Given the high case numbers across all LGAs, there is no public health imperative to mention each town - it is now widespread."
