Police have charged a man who was shot by police after allegedly threatening them with a knife during a confrontation in a Sydney supermarket car park.

The Maroubra man, 26, is due to face a bedside court hearing on Friday as he recovers in St Vincent's Hospital, police say.
He was allegedly armed with a knife and assaulted two women outside a Woolworths store in Matraville on Wednesday afternoon.
He then allegedly brandished a large knife at police who tried to arrest him in the underground car park of the supermarket.
Two officers fired at the man simultaneously, one with a taser and the other with a gun.
The man was shot in the hip and was taken to hospital.
He has been charged with five offences including being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, police assault and shoplifting.
The event was allegedly sparked by an incident at a home near the supermarket.
Witnesses then saw the man near the shopping centre before he was chased into the building by police.
The circumstances of the incident will be the subject of a critical incident investigation.
