An eight-hour concert during which audiences on stretcher beds go to sleep may seem absurd, but after selling out and making headlines around the world, German-born British composer Max Richter's Sleep will be staged at Hobart's Federation Concert Hall at the upcoming Dark Mofo festival (June 8-22).

No point rushing to the website to book tickets, though - the show sold out within 90 minutes of going on sale, but there are still plenty of other exciting events up for grabs during the festival celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

Grab a sparkling costume and mask and join the deliriously hedonistic Blue Rose masquerade ball on June 7, or get into your birthday suit for the Nude Solstice Swim on Long Beach on June 22. Whatever you do, don't forget to book one of the hotels before they sell out, too. Accor has just been named the official accommodation partner for Dark Mofo, and the group's relatively new Movenpick Hotel in the heart of Hobart would be our pick.

My all-time favourite destination is ... New York. You can drop a pin anywhere in Manhattan and start walking in any direction, and the sights and sounds of the city that never stops will begin to stimulate all your senses in an instant.

Next on my bucket list is … Scandinavia - at the peak of summer, when the sun almost never sets.

My top travel tip is … If you’re flying to Sydney from anywhere in the world, pick a window seat far from the wing on the left-hand-side of the aeroplane. If the weather gods and flight path align, you’ll have the most incredible views of the Sydney Harbour and Opera House.
