Best TV series to stream during the school holidays

Sometimes, the best thing to do is cuddle up on the couch and catch up on some of streaming's best series.

Here are some suggestions for the best TV currently available, that should keep the entire family entertained over the term one break.

The good news is some of the best family viewing is on free to air services.

There's nothing to add about ABC classic Bluey that hasn't already been said, but if your family is one of the few yet to discover the universal hit, there's no time like the present.

Other great ABC options include The Inbestigators, a children's crime show which follows four amateur sleuths solving mysteries around their school and neighborhood.

While, a great option for kids approaching their teens is First Day.

The award winning ABC series follows the life of Hannah, a 12-year-old transgender girl, navigating the transition from Primary to Secondary education, and deals with issues including friendship, bullying and how to fit in.

SBS on demand also has a number of great options for the family.

Robbie Hood is the story of a 13-year-old troublemaker, Robbie, and his life in Alice Springs.

In 2019, this short series won an AACTA award for Best Online Drama or Comedy, and is told with a wit that will have the whole family smiling.

Another Indigenous Australian story, Thalu, follows a group of children in a Mad Max-esque world, as they embark on a journey to save their homeland from a mysterious dust cloud.

For teenage audiences, Veronica Mars is streaming on 9NOW, and the mystery show should be as popular for young adults as it was in the 2000's.

Netflix has a fantastic range of family shows, including many gripping series for teens that should also satisfy parents.

Young adult series Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is a beautifully animated post-apocalyptic story about a girl searching for her father in a dangerous new world.

Netflix has also recently released the third series of teenage favourite Outer Banks, which follows a group of daring adventurers on the cusp of adulthood.

For those who have already seen Outer Banks, other fast paced teen offerings from Netflix include The Society, Cobra Kai and Spanish drama Elite.

But, if you're looking for something left of field to keep you amused, Japan's Pui Pui Molcar, is one of the most absurd and enjoyable animations available.

Stan also has a solid range of Australian and international content for teens.

Josh Thomas' heartfelt comedy, Everything's Gonna Be Okay, tells the story of a young Australian man (played by Thomas) forced to take on parenting duties on a trip to the US.

While kids interested in sport are sure to get a kick out of hit series All American, which depicts the trials and tribulations of a young American Footballer adjusting to new surroundings in Beverly Hills.

Unsurprisingly Disney+ also has some of the best youth content to stream.

The Owl House is an all ages animation with a 100 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series follows a young girl's attempt to become a witch after accidentally entering the demon realm.

French adventure-mystery Parallels will keep you guessing across all six episodes, as four friends are flung into separate dimensions and must work to return their lives to normal.

While the Baby Yoda led Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, is currently airing its third series.

But, if you want to spend the holidays catching up on past series you may have missed, Binge has a range of old classics.
