Victorian Government cracks down on scalping for Taylor Swift Eras Tour

The announcement of the US pop star's visit down under for The Eras Tour has sent fans into meltdown with fears of missing out on a ticket.

Swift has announced just five shows across Melbourne and Sydney only for her visit to Australia next summer.

Victorian Major Events Minister Steve Dimopoulos made the declaration under the Major Events Act 2009 due to the strong demand expected for tickets.

"Our message to ticket scalpers is clear - don't sell Taylor Swift tickets at inflated prices, otherwise you will be fined," he said.

The announcement means Swift tickets cannot be advertised for resale or be resold for more than 10 per cent above the original price.

And ticket package sellers must be authorised by the event organiser.

Any ticket sellers who don't comply face fines from $925 up to $554,760 depending on the nature of the offence.

The first VIP packages for The Eras Tour in Australia were sold in a pre-sale on June 26 and crashed the American Express website.

The next presale through Frontier Touring is on June 28 at 10am for the Sydney concerts and 2pm for Melbourne.

The general public sale follows on June 30.

''We're expecting overwhelming interest in Taylor Swift The Eras Tour tickets, and these laws help to keep ticket purchasing fair for music fans," Frontier Touring chief executive Dion Brant said.

Ticket reselling site Viagogo has already been offering tickets for resale for as much as $4075 in Melbourne.

Ticket prices start at $80 but top VIP packages cost $899.99 and $1249.60.

Crowds at the MCG are expected to reach 180,000 across February 16 and 17 next year for Swift's first tour in Australia since 2018.

Fans are expected to travel from across the country after other cities were left off the tour schedule.
