Did The Simpsons predict the Titanic sub disaster?

Across 34 seasons and 740 episodes, this isn't the first time The Simpsons creators have edged out Nostradamus with their prolific predictions.

Here's a list of the most notable times the wacky family from Evergreen Terrace got it right.

In the season 17 episode 'Homer's Paternity Coot', Homer travels to a deep sea shipwreck in a miniature submarine.

In the episode, Homer has doubts about his biological father after evidence suggests that rich treasure hunter Mason Fairbanks is in fact his real dad.

Homer and Fairbanks then go searching for the Piso Mojado shipwreck in the hope of finding lost treasure.

But the expedition takes a turn when Homer's sub becomes trapped on coral, leading to Homer losing consciousness because of low oxygen.

Sound familiar?

In the episode titled 'Bart to the Future' which aired in 2000, Lisa became President of the United States.

In a cabinet meeting she says "we inherited quite the budget crunch from President Trump."

In 2016, Trump made that offhanded statement a reality.

But the prediction became more accurate when Trump announced he will be running in 2024, which, according to producer Al Jean, is the year The Simpsons originally predicted.

In the episode titled '$pringfield (or, how I learned to stop worrying and love legalised gambling)', Mr Burns builds a casino where Homer is hired as a blackjack dealer.

Gunter and Ernst's circus act - a clear reference to Siegfried and Roy - ends in tragedy when their white tiger Anastasia attacks them.

During a show at the Mirage in 2003, 10 years after The Simpsons episode went to air, a white tiger named Mantacore attacked Roy Horn leaving him severely injured.

In 'Lisa's Wedding' which aired in 1995, a clairvoyant predicts Lisa's future and tells the story of her true love.

Fifteen years in the future (2010) Lisa is set to marry Hugh Parkfield, but when events go awry, Parkfield calls off the wedding by speaking into his watch.

In 2013, smart watches with voice recognition came out.

This one's quite remarkable - in a 1998 episode titled 'The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace' - Homer aspires to become an inventor.

One cutaway shows Homer madly scribbling on a chalk board, the bottom of which shows a math equation.

In his 2015 book 'The Simpsons and their mathematical secrets', particle physicist Dr Simon Singh wrote that "If you work it out [the chalkboard equation], you get the mass of a Higgs boson that's only a bit larger than the nano-mass the Higgs boson actually is.

"It's kind of amazing as Homer makes this prediction 14 years before it was discovered."

In the 1990 episode 'Two Cars in Every Garage and Three Eyes on Every Fish', Bart catches a three-eyed fish downstream from the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant.

After the fish, nicknamed Blinky by the media, makes headlines the governor sends an inspection team to the plant, suspecting nuclear waste may have caused the mutation.

Then in 2011, a fisherman caught a three-eyed wolf fish in a reservoir near a nuclear plant in Argentina.

In 'When You Dish Upon a Star' which aired in 1998, an establishing shot shows the 20^th Century Fox logo with a "Division of Walt Disney Co." sign below it.

In 2018, Disney acquired what is now 21^st Century Fox for $71.3 billion.
