Manhunt for alleged fugitive Stanley Turvey ends in shooting death

Officers said they were confronted by Turvey, who was armed, when they arrived at the house.

Police shot the alleged fugitive and he died at the scene after receiving first aid.

Officers from Shepparton in northern Victoria were intending to arrest Turvey at a property in Katandra West at midday on September 18 when he allegedly pulled a gun on police.

Turvey allegedly fired a shot in the air before dashing from the property in a car.

Police gave chase but rolled their vehicle on nearby Creighton Road. The officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries and the car was towed with major damage to its bonnet.

Turvey, who had lost the officers in pursuit, stopped at a home in Youanmite that police believe was chosen at random.

He allegedly forced a man at gunpoint to drive the pair across the NSW border to Finley where the hostage was released without incident, police said.

Turvey was allegedly seen committing an armed robbery in Yarrawonga on the Victorian border on September 19, police said.
