Former 2GB radio host Roman Butchaski missing in Far North Queensland

Emergency services have been searching for Mr Butchaski, aged in his 60s, since November 12 when he failed to return from fishing in the Olive River at Shelburne, in Far North Queensland.

The search resumed for a third day on November 14, a Queensland Police spokesperson confirmed.

2GB radio host Ben Fordham told listeners 'Butch' was a popular member of the station's fishing show alongside Michael Guest and Gavin Pitchford.

"This is a worry for us here at 2GB. One of our former colleagues has gone missing in Far North Queensland," Mr Fordham said.

"He was last seen heading off on a solo fishing trip in Cape York Peninsula on Sunday afternoon and a major search and rescue operation is under way."

Mr Fordham spoke to Country Caller journalist Harry Clarke who revealed a buggy used by Mr Butchaski to travel to the river had been found, as well as a fishing rod.

Mr Clarke said Olive River was a tidal, salt-water river and a known crocodile habitat - like all waterways in the area.

Mr Fordham said he had spoken to former fishing show co-host Gavin Pitchford, who said he was "devastated".

"'Butchy' walks the banks up there regularly, he's been fishing there forever," Mr Pitchford told 2GB.
