Christmas Day heartbreak: families search for missing loved ones

Around 38,000 Australians are reported missing each year, and many are found quickly, but more than 2,500 families live with the heartache of waiting for a long-term missing person to come home.

A picture and details of their last sighting were provided by police in the hope a member of the public holds a vital clue that can help police return these people to their families.

Victoria Joshua's family were told on Christmas Day that the 68-year-old had left an aged care home in Greystanes, Sydney at 10am but did not return.

Her family said she lives with "a number of medical conditions" and they're concerned for her welfare.

Ms Joshua is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 176 centimetres tall, with a solid build and grey hair wearing a brown shirt, white cardigan and carrying a white handbag.

Megan Rigby's family reported the 24-year-old missing on December 22 after two days had passed without friends and family seeing her.

She was last spotted on December 20 in Albury wearing a black hoodie, white tracksuit pants and carrying a black Nike backpack.

Ms Rigby is around 170 centimetres tall with a medium build, fair complexion, brown hair and eyes.

Police said she has a medical condition and concerns were held for her welfare.

Charles Cameron was reported missing on Christmas Day after he had not been seen by friends or family since 11pm on December 23.

Police understand it was "out of character" for the 32-year-old to disappear and his loved ones were concerned by the long period of absence.

He was described as being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander appearance, more than 165 centimetres tall with a medium build, brown hair and eyes.

He was last seen in Redfern, Sydney wearing a white t-shirt, Tommy Hilfiger-brand shorts, black Nike shoes and a hat with an Aboriginal flag.

Terry Balmer was last seen boarding a train heading east from Lithgow at 3am on December 23 and his loved ones have been unable to contact him since.

The 52-year-old is living with "several medical conditions" and his family hold serious concern for his welfare.

Police said he may be travelling to Queensland or Engadine, NSW wearing a black and white chequered jumper, khaki cargo shorts and orange socks with no shoes.

He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, bald, with a solid build, 165 centimetres tall and has missing teeth.

Kostantinos Diakostergos had a phone conversation with a family member on December 23 but he has not been seen since December 21 when he was spotted at Hurstville Railway Station.

The 17-year-old's family hold serious concerns for his wellbeing due to his young age, police said.

He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and tracksuit pants with a green cap.

He's described as being of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern appearance, 180 centimetres tall with a thin build, brown hair and eyes.

He has a crown tattoo with the word "king" on his left hand.

Olia Hatem was last seen at 6am on December 16, and after loved ones struggled to reach her, she was reported missing on December 24.

The 64-year-old was described as being of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern appearance with a medium build, 170 centimetres tall and collar-length light coloured hair.

She is known to spend time in Merrylands, Sydney and her family said she is living with a medical condition.

Police are unsure what she may be wearing.
