Wednesday, September 25, has an 80 to 90 per cent chance of rain with 10 to 20mm falling from the Shoalhaven region to Bega, according to Weatherzone.
The heavy rain is most likely to fall in the afternoon and evening.
Shoalhaven Rural Fire Service (RFS) district manager, Superintendent Matt Reeves, said the predicted rainfall was welcome.
"All rain is good when we're this dry," he said.
"[But] anything less than 10mm won't make much impact on the landscape."
Superintendent Reeves said the dryness of the region's soil was at an eight or nine out of 10 rating, so the more moisture getting into the soil the better.
With more moisture in the ground, the local RFS will have a chance at getting on with its fire hazard reduction program on a larger scale, he said.

Forecast and fire risk
Following the wet Wednesday, Shoalhaven Heads and Ulladulla will see slightly less rain on Thursday, September 26, with five to 10mm predicted and less again at the end of the week with one to five millimetres of rainfall expected on Friday the 27th and over the weekend.
Further south in Eurobodalla, Thursday's rainfall is expected to be one to five millimetres after up to 20mm on Wednesday, with showers clearing on Friday and less chance of rain over the weekend.
After the late rainfall on Wednesday, Bega's rain will start to clear up on Thursday with only a 30 per cent chance of one millimetre of rain.
Leading up to the wet weather, however, the Bureau of Meteorology has a high fire danger status for Illawarra/Shoalhaven, and a moderate fire danger for the Far South Coast.
"We have seven days of gusty winds," Supt Reeves said. "Wind is drying out the land more than the warm weather.
"Even if we get the rain later this week, there is still a risk of bushfire."
