Data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum for the week ending September 29 shows the average NSW price of unleaded petrol dropped by 7.0 cents to 167.2 cents per litre.
Sydney has the cheapest market, with an average price of 161.3 cents per litre, a drop of 9.0 cents while the regional NSW average is 173.3 cents per litre, a drop of 4.8 cents
Canberra, one of the country's most expensive markets, has an average weekly price is 178.9 cents per litre, a drop of 3.7 cents per litre.
Aside from Sydney, the cheapest NSW location for fuel is Tweed Heads with an average of 163.4 cents per litre, followed by Maitland and Bathurst.
The most expensive NSW location for unleaded petrol is Mudgee at 194.9 cents per litre, followed by Forbes and Deniliquin.
Victoria has significantly higher petrol prices. The Victorian state average stands at 188.2 cents per litre.
The Melbourne average is 191.5 cents per litre, an increase of 0.6 cents for the week.
Regional Victorian prices are dropping. The average weekly regional price is 179 cents per litre, a drop of 2.1 cents per litre.
The cheapest places in Victoria for petrol is Wodonga at 169.6 cents per litre, followed by Geelong and Echuca. The most expensive place is south-east of Melbourne in Koo Wee Rup, at 198.3 cents per litre.
Australian fuel prices are determined by movements in the international refined benchmark fuel prices (which are driven by international crude oil prices).
Recently crude oil prices have dropped, influenced by weaker Chinese consumption.
