The body was believed to be of a missing 34-year-old fisherman, who was reportedly swept off rocks south of Eden.
About 5.10pm on Friday, March 7, NSW police were called to a location about 5km from Boyd's Tower at Edrom, following reports a man had been swept off rocks and into the water while fishing.
South Coast police have confirmed the man wasn't wearing a lifejacket.
Officers attached to Marine Area Command responded, with the assistance of officers attached to South Coast Police District, Marine Rescue NSW, SES and Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Police divers were also used in the search for the missing fisherman.
Conditions for search agencies were challenging due to weather patterns the result of ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred in the north of the state and southern Queensland.
Large swells reached as far as the NSW Far South Coast, hampering efforts to salvage a fishing vessel that ran aground near Bermagui, and seeing large waves batter popular beaches.
ACM understood the operation had become search and recovery since the missing fisherman was believed to have been in the water since Friday afternoon.
About 10.15am Monday, NSW Police divers located the body of a man in Leather Jacket Bay, close to where the missing fisherman was last sighted.
Officers attached to South Coast Police have established a crime scene.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
