NSW Police said the girl was at a shopping centre in Liverpool, in Sydney's southwest, when she was approached by an unknown male teenager at 5.30pm on December 15, 2024.
"The male struck up a friendly conversation with the female before he followed her to her car, which was parked in the parking lot," Detective Superintendent Jayne Doherty said.
She reluctantly let the 16-year-old male inside before he started sexually assaulting her, Detective Superintendent Doherty said.
"During that sexual assault, the male had a video call with persons, who we will say are his co-accused, and he filmed certain parts of that, sending that through a video call to those other offenders," she said.

The teen then asked to be driven to Wheat Park in Sadlier. The alleged victim agreed on the understanding that he would get out of the car, but when they arrived at the park, two other male teenagers got in.
The two other teenagers also allegedly sexually assaulted the girl.
A fourth male teen arrived in another car, and police said the sexual assault continued as the girl was "erratically" driven around Sydney's western suburbs.
Distraught victim was 'degraded'
Detective Superintendent Doherty said, "The four of them acted together, creating fear in the victim, degrading her whilst the others offended against her".
"At times, there was more than one person offending against this poor young girl," she said.
At 11.30pm, six hours after the sexual assault began, the group of teenagers left the victim in her car, police said.

She contacted a friend who took her to Liverpool Police Station to report the assault.
Detective Superintendent Doherty said the victim was supported by family and investigators after the assault, but that she was "distraught".
"This will impact the rest of her life," the Sex Crimes Squad detective superintendent said.
"It beggars belief that, in this day and age, men would think to act this way towards a girl," she said.
"To act not just instantaneously but over a six-hour period, continuing to act together and encourage each other and degrade the victim in the way that they did.
"Their age is concerning, but this shouldn't be accepted at any age."
Charges laid after alleged sexual assault
NSW Police referred the investigation to the state's Sex Crimes Squad after the report was made.
Two teenage males were arrested and charged in December as the investigation continued. Police arrested and charged two other teenage males in June 2025.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested at a home in Condell Park on December 20, 2024.
He was charged with 24 offences, including nine counts of sexual intercourse without consent, eight counts of aggravated sex assault, two counts of aggravated sexual assault in company and inflicting actual bodily harm.
A 14-year-old was arrested at a home in Miller on December 20, 2024.
He was charged with 10 offences, including seven counts of aggravated sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault in company and inflicting actual bodily harm, aggravated sexual touching of another person, and sexual touching of another person without consent.
Both teens were refused bail to appear at a children's court on December 21, 2024.

They are due to reappear on August 11.
An 18-year-old was arrested in Sadlier on June 17, 2025.
He was charged with nine counts of aggravated sex assault with the offender in company with other persons and is due to face court on June 18.
A 19-year-old was arrested in Heckenberg on June 17, 2025.
He was charged with five counts of aggravated sex assault with the offender in company with other persons and is due to face court on June 18.
'Overt and covert' investigation
Detective Superintendent Doherty said investigators waited six months to arrest the remaining two suspects as evidence was gathered.
"When we first received the notification of this, we put certain things in place to ensure the safety of the community whilst we conducted the investigation," she said.
"After the arrest of the 16-year-old and 14-year-old, we conducted an extensive risk assessment, and we were comfortable that the risk of reoffending had been ameliorated to the point that we could then gather further evidence.
"We used overt and covert strategies to gather further evidence to be able to tell the court the full story of what has happened here and support the victim in giving evidence so that it's not just her story, it's the full story.
"I would hope that the arrests of these young men will send a message to any other young men who might think to act that way."
