"It is with extreme shock and sadness to discover our Premier League 1 player - Dan Elkayam - was a victim of the horrendous, tragic and senseless events at Bondi Beach on Sun 14th Dec 2025," Rockdale Ilinden Football Club posted on Facebook.
"Dan was an integral member of our PL1 Squad in 2025 - who was an extremely talented and popular figure amongst team mates.
"Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Dan's family, friends and all that knew him."
Mr Elkayam was a French citizen who had been living in Australia for several years. His LinkedIn profile said he was working as an IT analyst for NBC Universal.
French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement posted on X.
"It is with deep sadness that I learned of the death of our compatriot Dan Elkayam in the anti-Semitic terrorist attack in Sydney," the post read.
"My thoughts are with his family and loved ones, and I express to them the full solidarity of the nation."
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the country was mourning with Elkayam, and described the shooting that left at least 16 people dead as "despicable".
"It is with immense sadness that we learned that our compatriot Dan Elkayam was among the victims of the despicable terrorist attack that struck Jewish families gathered on Bondi Beach in Sydney on the first day of Hanukkah," Barrot said in a statement posted to X.
"We mourn with his family and loved ones, with the Jewish community, and with the grieving Australian people. This despicable act is yet another tragic manifestation of a revolting surge of antisemitic hatred that we must thwart. France will spare no effort to eradicate antisemitism wherever it arises and to combat terrorism in all its forms. The lights of Hanukkah must not and will not be extinguished.
"We mourn with his family and loved ones, with the grieving Jewish community and the Australian people."
A Football NSW spokesperson said: "Football NSW would like to extend its sincere condolences to all those affected by the tragic events at Bondi Beach last Sunday.
"Our thoughts and hearts are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted during this difficult time.
"Our heartfelt prayers go out to the Elkayam family following the tragic loss of their son Dan, an avid footballer who played with Rockdale Ilinden FC in this year's Football St George competition."
